Tobin had done everything in her power to avoid the very situation she was in. She had woken up an hour early, printed out a map route, programmed her GPS, had a rare cup of coffee, and still there was one thing she didn't account for. Construction.
"Damnit," yelling at no one. A slew of cuss words ran from her mouth as she starred at the passing clock. Worrying that she was gonna miss the whole thing Tobin had finally seen what she was looking for.
Families all walking in the same direction. Not wanting to take any chances she parked in the first spot she found and booked it.
Tobin was careful not to bump into anyone as she weaved thru the crowd. She knew already that she would not be coming back her ever again.
There was way too many children, it was completely disorganized, and not safe.
As Tobin slowed to a jog she finally laid eyes on Shirley. For a moment she thought about sneaking up behind her, laying a kiss on her neck, and wrapping her arms around the woman.
Luckily the thought passed quickly; knowing that even if they were still together Shirley would be livid with her for showing affection in public.
Instead Tobin just walked up to her and smiled.
"So what do you think?"
"I fucking hate it," Shirley exclaimed. With a sigh Tobin realized it was going to be a long day.
"So do I. Sorry I was late."
"Whatever. Here." Shirley shoved a small blurry black and white picture at Tobin.
It took her a second to realize what it was, anger and joy overwhelming her at the same time.
"What the hell is this Shirley?!"
"What do you think it is Tobin? It's a sonogram," Shirley responded dryly.
With tears in her eyes Tobin couldn't keep calm in the crowd and didn't care if she was making a scene.
"Why didn't you tell me you had an appointment!? I would have gone. I wanted to be there!
"We arn't together anymore Tobin. I don't have to tell you everything."
"You're kidding me right. You're not gonna tell me about your appointment, yet you wanna do all of this?," her arms gesturing to the families and school around her, "this isn't about us being together anymore. We are still having a child together Shirley!"
"Look if you don't want to scout out school districts for our child then don't. I don't care and I don't need you."
Shirley finally looked at Tobin, her hands massaging her huge belly. Tobin knew she was gonna lose this fight and was grateful that she didn't have to deal with the crazy parts of the pregnancy.
"Just tell me next time please. I hate missing them."
