She was just 19 when they met. Her heart wide open and her skin innocent. Shirley was magic to Tobin.
"Tobin?" Shirley's eyes scanned the room with disinterest, hopping no one would claim the name.
" Hi, yes that's me," with her hand extended Tobin radiated confidence, "sorry about my outfit I came straight from work."
The older woman was taken back by the young girl standing in front of her, her mind chasing words.
"Ma'am? Are you ok?" Looking straight into the girl's eyes she could feel the concern the girl had for her.
"Yes, I'm sorry. I'm fine. Follow me. please."
The small room was murky with tension as questions and answers bounced of it's walls. Leaning forward Shirley listened to Tobin, searching for an explanation as to what it was about the girl. Her clothes were unacceptable for an interview, she acted as if she didn't need the job, yet Shirley knew she would give it to the girl.
As Tobin answered the last question she finally took a good look at the woman sitting across from her. She was gorgeous. With a deep hitching breath, the two of them were alone in the world.
She was just 26 when they met. Her heart guarded and her skin jaded. She didn't gamble like she used to, Tobin was a last chance to Shirley.
