The next morning, I awoke on the ground, face down. I felt the harshness of the carpet on my skin. I guess I'd fallen off my bed a couple hours ago, because I could see the rough marks it left on my skin. It was so irritating. Then Grandpa started yelling. Sally ran down to see what the matter was.
"Grandpa, are you ok? What's going on? Are you hurt?" She sounded a little worried. Anyone would, by the sound of Grandpa's yelling.
"There's no sugar left! I wanted coffee for breakfast, but there's no sugar left! Go to the store and buy some! Now!"
Oh brother. "Grandpa, you were yelling like that because there's no sugar left?! I thought something happened. And no, I'm not going out to the store this early. It's too cold, anyway."
After breakfast, I remembered about the snow.
"Surely the blizzard is over by now." I say to Sally. Then she gestured a no and started to clean up. I wouldn't give up. "com'on Sally." I said, while putting on my coat, mittens, hat and scarf.
"There too much, I mean way too much snow. " she said. But I didn't listen. I started turning the knob.
"No Page, I told you. You can't go out, it's too cold. You won't go out." she scolded.
I turned the knob and opened it slightly so the cold breeze wouldn't come Sally's way. She was only wearing a blue, long sleeved shirt, and skinny jeans. But the door wouldn't agree to be opened only slightly. It flew open so hard, that I think the knob left a mark on the wall. As it was opening, snow and wind rushed in. And although I was wearing three layers, the cold started to get to me. I felt the chilly wind hit my face, and the snowflakes on my skin. I felt the snow melt to cold water, slide down my shoes and reach my socks. Then, the aggressive wind, flew by my face, freezing it even more. It felt like a paper cut on my freezing skin. And now, the warmth in my coat left me, like the waves in the water would, when it reverts back to the sea. My feet were wet, my face was freezing; I was freezing, and now it felt worse.
"Aaaaaaaaaa! The house! The carpet!" Sally yelled, as snow ran in the house and covered about 2 feet of our carpet.
"What about me?" I mumbled.
She swiped the shovel by the door, and started forcing the snow out. She did it in a hurry, so the carpet wouldn't be as wet. She shoveled it with so much force, that she could've shoveled me with the snow, and bury me in it.
I toppled over the shovel and fell on the cold, wet carpet. Even though my coat was already wet, I felt it soak even more.
After that incident, I had to stay inside for the rest of the day. It was midnight, and Sally thinks I'm asleep. But do you really think I can sleep, with all that snow outside? No way. I was going out. I know I'm crazy to do this, but I had made up my mind. The snow wasn't melting anytime soon, and what was I going to all that time? And if the snow did start to melt, it wouldn't be as good as it looked now. So I secretly got dressed, even warmer than before, because I have experienced the harsh weather. I didn't have my boots on when I was sneaking out, because it had gotten off when I tripped over the shovel. And Sally had shoveled it away with the snow.
I tiptoed to the front door, and immediately remembered the wet carpet, as I felt the unpleasant wetness go through my socks and the coldness reach my feet. "Aaaah! Oops. Oh no." I shouldn't have yelled. Sally heard me for sure. So I waited patiently for her to run down and scold me. I expected it to be harsh, since I'm deliberately disobeying her. And going out to play in the snow, at night! I thought it over again. Sally wouldn't let me go out, so I had to let myself go out. And the only time to do that is when Sally isn't around.
I waited for about two minutes, and as each minute passed with complete silence, I began to think she hadn't heard me. Whew. Then, just as I was turning the knob, it turned to utter darkness.
Since Sally's door was closed, I had turned on the lights downstairs. But now they turned off. Had Sally known I was here and decided to play smart with me? Had she came down here without letting me know, and turned off the lights to scare me? Or was it just a blackout? I am crazy! Going outside at midnight? What was I thinking?
I decided to revert back to bed, and forget all about this dumbfounded plan.
The next morning, I was surprised to see how much snow there was when I looked out my window. It covered half of mom's car! I ran down and showed Sally.
"It was like this yesterday." She said surprised by my ignorance. "You didn't look out the window?"
Now it hit me. That's the reason why she was so reluctant to let me out. When she said way too much snow, she had meant it.
"We really need to go grocery shopping, but there's just no way. Unless we are willing to trudge through the snow." Sally said with a bit of disappointment in her voice. "And school's been canceled until further notice. Because of the weather." I was happy, but I didn't let it out, since Sally was feeling down. So I tried to cheer her up. But before I could do that, Grandpa came up and did it for me.
"We should really take a vacation. Hmmmmmm......How 'bout.........Texas?"
" Grandpa that's a great idea! Let's go now!" She was so happy, she forgot to think before she spoke. "Oh. I'm sorry. I guess we should worry about the finances first. Is this a joke, Grandpa? Neah....I hope not. We really need it. But why Texas?"
"Somewhere warm. Summery. The beach? Or a nice, long cruise ride. Doesn't cost that much for a cruise. Anyone up for it? Hahahah. Just kidding, don't take it seriously Sally." Grandpa said in his usually happy voice, which, unfortunately, caused everyone to turn down and unhappy. But surprisingly, Sally's face didn't change. I guess she was up for it.
"No Grandpa, it's no joke. We're going." I didn't expect that from Sally. "Alright everyone, pack up for a one week vacation at Texas!"
