Days have passed since the last time I had seen Lauren. She hasn't showed up to first hour, but she arrives around fourth hour, or so I've heard from other students who talk. By being quiet and staying in the background I am able to hear what's new around school.
I sigh as I walk into the busy cafeteria and walk through the lunch line and get some food I try to find an empty table to sit at. As I walked to a table in the back I was about to hear parts of conversations that were about Lauren.
"Yeah I heard she's back in jail."
"If she was back in jail then she wouldn't be coming to school at all."
"Well maybe she has one of those ankle bracelet things."
I roll my eyes as I sit down and begin to eat my food. People are so annoying with all the rumors they make up and spread out of boredom. But in all honestly, i really do wonder whats going on with Lauren and why she's been skipping out on the early morning classes...
I pull out a book to read to get my mind off that arrogant green eyed girl.
"Hey you!" Someone shouts very loudly.
I rolled my eyes, seriously? Shaking my head, I try to focus on the book in front of me.
"You! Reading the book!"
My whole entire body stiffens. Who the heck would be talking to me? Are they even talking to me? I nervously glance around and don't see anyone else reading a book other than me. I look up to see a very tall, beautiful girl with blonde hair and tanned skin staring at me with an amused smile on her face. Just by looking at her I could tell she had enough confidence to fill up this whole entire room.
I point at myself, "Me?"
She laughs covering her mouth with her hand, "Yeah girl, I was trying to get your attention but you didn't look up so I thought you were deaf or something."
A small smile tugs at the corners of my lips but I fight it off.
"I'm new here," she says holds up what I think is her schedule. "And I need someone to show me to my locker. Do you think you can help me?"
No, I want to say. But I nod in response and begin picking my stuff up. This girl, whose name I don't know, seems really nice and cool. Maybe we can become friends in the future, if I'm lucky and that will get my mom off my back.
Standing, I put my backpack on and reached my hand out for her class schedule. She handed it to me.
I examined it and saw that her locker was on the second floor, all the way in the back. Nice.
I lead the way, "Your locker is on the second floor in the way back corner."
She groans as we walk up the stairs, "Explain to me why I decided to wear heels?"
I laugh quietly, "Probably not the best idea."
"Lesson learned," she breathes when we reach the top.
"So what's your name?" The girl asks.
"Camila Cabello."
"Cool name. Is it alright if I shorten it?"
I raise a brow, "Uh sure."
"I like Mila better, it fits perfectly." I nod, that sounds alright. She continues, "I'm Dinah Jane Milika Ilaisaane Hansen Amasi, but you can just call me Dinah Jane."
I stop, wait hold up. The memory of my mom telling me that her friend Milika's daughter would be attending my school, plays in my mind. Holy shit, this MIGHT be her.
"Is your mom Milika?" I can't help but ask, just to be sure.
Dinah raises a brow at me, "yeah she is, how do you...?"
"My mom works with your mom, and she babysits my little sister."
"Sofi is your little sister?!" I nod. "Oh my god! That little girl is so crazy and funny as hell!"
I can't help but burst out laughing at the way she talked about my crazy little sister. It's true, Sofi is funny and crazy and just all of the above. She's great.
We continued walking and talking and just having a great time while we walked through the halls and I showed her where her classes would be. The cool thing is, is that we have first hour together, and I'm really looking forward to that.
After I showed her where to go she spoke up and threw an arm over my shoulder, "You know Mila, you and I are gonna be great friends."
A wide genuine smile formed on my face.
I really hope so.
