The weekend ended up being pretty chill. Amanda and I just hung out all day and did nothing. My ribs and head had time to recover and I got to spend quality time with my roommate.
When Monday rolled around Amanda took me to class. When she found out I was going to take my bike, Amanda flipped her shit. She took the keys to my bike and put them somewhere in her room.
We took the subway up to NYU and she walked me to class. I told her that I'll see her later because Tony is going to pick me up for work. Amanda just nodded and gave me a kiss on the cheek before taking her leave.
I walked into class and took a seat to realize I'm the first one here. I'm here 45 minutes early. The only other person in the room is my professor, Ms. Sophia Steward.
She looked up from her desk to see who walked into the room. When her eyes locked on mine her jaw dropped a bit.
"Veronica are you okay? What happened?" She asked forgetting what she was working on and came right over to me.
"I'm fine" I said trying to brush it off.
"No you're not. It looks like you got your ass beat." She said and touched my bruised cheek.
I flinched away from her touch and met her eyes. Concern is clear all over he face and I couldn't help but think why? Why does she care about a girl in one of her many classes?
"You should have seen the other girl." I answered looking down at my hands.
My knuckles don't look bruised at all. They're just sore when I close my hand into a fist. I felt two fingers under my chin and they forced my face up. My blue eyes met her blue eyes and they locked on each other.
"This isn't the first time I have seen you with big bruises Scar. What's going on?" She asked.
Her eyes are warm and inviting, she wants me to open up to her. She wants me to fill in the blanks for her.
"I can't tell you. Once you know, it could put you at risk." I said. Disappointment flooded her eyes and it's a look I never want to see on her again.
"Scar you need to tell someone." She said.
"But I can't. I want to keep you safe Sophia." I said.
She dropped her fingers from under my chin and I instantly miss the warmth. Sophia sat back in her seat and looked at me.
"How badly are you hurt?" She asked after a moment of silence.
"I have some busted ribs but other then that it's not bad. The other girl is a lot worse." I answered.
Our conversation was cut short when other students started to fill into the classroom. Sophia went back to her desk and started her lecture promptly at 9. It took everything in me not to fall asleep. The medication I'm on makes me drowsy. I ended up falling asleep on my desk.
At the end of class Sophia woke me up and I jumped. I didn't want her to think that she bored me to sleep. When I came too I looked around and saw the classroom is already empty.
"Sorry, my medication makes me tired." I said and rubbed my eyes.
"When is your next class?" She asked.
"I have a two hour gap now." I said.
"Come down to my office, you can sleep on the couch I have in there." Sophia said.
After a quick debate in my head I took her up on her offer. I have some photo's I need to edit for class but I have no energy. Hopefully an hour power nap will help that.
