At about a quarter into the afternoon Arthur's men alerted him of the oncoming storm from the north, but as it was over 40 miles away he decided to brush it off. The winds were prosperous and that was all that mattered.
About an hour later he spotted a black outline in the cloud cover.
" Mr. Gwen! Can you please look out about 30 meters shy northwest an tell me what that object is!" Arthur shouted up to the glass compartment to his left and a young man poked his head out.
" Yessir Cap'n sir!" He grabbed his telescope and pulled on his goggles.
The black dot had now become more of a smudge.
" What do you see?!"
" Its a ship Cap'n. It's a Navy ship from the flag on the top, and I can't quite make out the name..." Gwen went silent for a moment, but the Captain clicked his tongue in annoyance and he spoke right back up, " Its the S.S Freedom sir!"
" Ah! Yes. Right on schedule." Arthur pulled down a microphone and clicked on the intercom.
" Hello! It's Captain Kirkland speaking! Everyone needs to get into their positions and the cabin boys should bring you what you ask for. Speaking of the cabin boys, if I find out that anyone of you come onto the main deck during the 'exchange' Ill make you clean the waste room for a week." Arthur rolled his eyes and continued. " Also Mathew Williams please report to the Captains deck!"
The Captain hurriedly clicked off the intercom and let go of the microphone, which, rather loudly, zipped back into its original position. The Brit turned on the Auto NAV pilot and turned away from the wheel.
Jameson was staring at him from behind a map.
" What?"
" Why do you need little Mathew?"
" His brother's the captain remember? If I can get him to talk to him we can probably get what we need without the fuss."
" That's a good point sir, but what if his brother isn't one for negotiations?" Jameson put down the map, and stood up.
" It'll be absolutely fine Jameson."
" If you say so..." Jameson turned to the door as it slowly creaked open.
" Um... Captain Kirkland you needed to see me?" Mathew peeked his head in.
" Good timing Mathew!" Arthur clasped his hands together then quickly faced the other direction. Mathew closed the door and stood behind him a bit. " Mathew, you say your brother is the captain of the S.S Freedom."
" Yes."
"Well I want to pick up a bit of supplies. As you've noticed we're slowly running out of food and ammunition."
"Yes...but what does my brother have to do with this?"
" He's the captain!" The Captain spun around, which startled Mathew. " I need you to talk to him so he'll let us on his ship. I don't want to get into a bloodbath, and I don't want to hurt anyone that's related to my crew members." Arthurs green eyes focused on Mathews. His own amethyst eyes softened a bit.
" Thank you Captai-" Arthur cut him off and clapped a steady hand on his shoulder.
" My name's Arthur." Mathew looked around shyly and back up to me.
" Oh, well then Arthur...I'll do my best! Just tell me what to do." The Captain smiled, and turned back around. The sky was still cloud covered and a bit gray, but he could clearly see the other ship slowly making its way over towards them. Arthur pointed a thin finger straight towards it.
" When she gets close enough that I can see the Captains glass compartment, I'll turn on our intercom. I need you to call out your brother so he knows we're at least friendly..." He grinned a bit," then I need you to ask him if he'll let my crewmembers and I aboard. You can come along to meet your brother if you want."
Mathew smiled at Arthur.
" Absolutely!! That's seems fine and if we do that Alfred won't dare to attack." The Captain glanced at Mathew.
"What?"
" Oh, nothing. It doesn't matter anymore."
" Okay, right then... Jameson please grab some men from their positions. Tell them of what their supposed to do." Jameson nodded and quickly retreated out of the room. Arthur snapped his attention back to the giant window in front of him.
He could see the glare of the captains glass compartment clearly.
" Mathew are you ready?"
" Yes sir."
Arthur walked over to a set of switches, buttons, and the like on the wall and glanced over to the window again. The Captains space was in plain sight, but he couldn't quite see into the little glass room. It was peculiar because someone should have been making a signal to flag down the ship...but Arthur shrugged it off anyways.
In an instant he flipped down a switch and the familiar crackle of the intercom was heard outside the ship. The Captain nods to Mathew, and he walked over to the microphone Arthur was using earlier and easily pulled it from its place.
Some rain drops were now pattering on the window, and a rumble of thunder was heard from a short distance. Arthur scowls and looks over at Mathew who pauses so the thunder won't drown out his voice.
His eyes flicked back outside and his mouth opens a crack.
A boom shakes Arthur out of his silence. He snaps his head to the window and sees a plume of smoke coming from a large canon protruding from the others ship. The original thought that it was just a normal cargo ship is shot out of the sky.
Arthur is knocked out of his thoughts as another canon makes impact with the side of his ship.
Glass shatters in every direction and red warning lights flicker on. The air and water from outside is blowing into the room, pushing papers every direction and damaging electrical equipment.
Arthur slowly stands up and steadies himself. His thin frame shaking every time the ship gives a lurch. As soon as he gathers his thoughts he searches for Mathew through the wrecked room, and to his concern was not found.
The Captain looks over to the door and stumbles a bit when another rumble went through the ship. His feet clumsily made their way over to the larger door and He pushes it open only to be met with Jameson's panicked face.
" Oh thank The Lord your okay! Where's Mathew?" Arthur glances behind him, and Jameson peaks over his shoulder. His face turns ashen, and pulls Arthur out of the room.
As they move down the corridor screams from their crew mates echo down the hall, and an occasional rumble from another explosion taking place somewhere on the old ship makes them stumble. Many of the walls have been knocked down and all the windows had either shattered completely or been cracked.
As they reach the door to the main deck Arthur is fuming and without a second thought he tears it open.
The sight had to be the worst he had ever seen.---------
*is embarrassed* *leaves* Next part coming out in like 10 seconds.
