I could tell I arrived at the venue on time, because everyone was flooding the house.
Teenagers were weaving in and out of the front gate. Luckily, the Parkers' residence was
fairly vast, designed for big house parties like this. Did I mention that Tyler was the son
of a CEO? His dad worked for a huge company that promoted the use of environmental friendly devices and other products. Their sales were always high, they were internationally exposed and well - known, which in short- made Tyler a rich kid.
Well, now you know.
Lights flashed from inside and the music couldn't get any louder. Already, I could tell the partygoers were at an all-time high. Despite all that, the huge structure in front of me didn't look like it changed one bit. This was still the house Tyler grew up in, and the place he called home.
I looked around to see if Tyler was there to welcome his guests, but he wasn't even out on the front yard. I guess he was too engrossed with his party arrangements, but I was fine with him being preoccupied sometimes. He was rarely like this anyway.
I clutched my handbag and Tyler's present closer while I walked into the house. From the looks of it, the party had just begun. A certain ecstasy coursed through the walls of the room and through the veins of hyped up teenagers, as the vibration of the sounds from the loud music pounded on our chests.
I placed Tyler's present on the countertop in front of his kitchen alongside other gifts. There were a lot of them but I got used to the amount. Every year when he celebrated his birthday, plenty of people would give him presents and the number would grow rapidly every few minutes as newer guests enter the premises. Either that or the people were just there for the night-out or club vibes you get from it. I moved around to see newer aspects of the party when I felt someone pat my shoulder. I turned to my right and found Luke smiling at me. From there, he swung his arm around my shoulder and showed me around. Luke was Tyler's best friend since childhood. All of Tyler's other friends were either not that close to him, or left the circle of friends after a while. But with Luke, he stayed through Tyler's ups and downs. Also, he was like an exact replica of Tyler except- his looks (obviously) and his sense of humor differed. They were true brothers at heart.
Luke removed his arm from my shoulder and started talking.
"Hey, Kenz." he danced to the beat of the music and guided me to the dance floor, where all the other teens were either grinding or socializing.
Luke was incredibly close by, so I could smell (as weird as that sounds) him breathing. Surprisingly, his breath didn't reek of any alcohol. But then I remembered- although this party was unsupervised, there were guards that inspected for any signs of booze or drugs.
The only drinks they could allow were beer and nothing else. Mr. And Mrs. Parker didn't want Tyler to start his sixteenth year with a disaster. They could've served punch, but they doubted that Tyler's friends would spike it anyway. I smiled back and we started talking.
"Hey Luke, how are you?" I tried to voice out loudly through the tremendous sounds coming from the speakers.
"I'm great, you?" he asked as I started dancing along.
"Same! Um, where's Ty?" he looked around and shrugged. I take it that he also didn't know where his best friend was.
After a while, I looked disappointed and didn't want to dance anymore. Who goes over to her boyfriend's birthday but doesn't see him anywhere? Me. "C'mon just one more dance? I'm sure he'll be down here soon." Luke reassured me with a warm smile.
