Chapter 7

Alice's POV

I was so happy for my niece, finding her mate. I didn't care if it was Alec Volturi, as long as Ella was happy. I was brushing her hair when I got a vision. A vampire- probably a newborn- was planning on hunting here. That wasn't good.

"Ella, would you mind if uncle Jasper and I went out for a while? We'll be back as soon as possible." Ella shrugged.

"Okay. I'm going to go practice my power with Jane. See you later." She got up and walked out of the room. I turned to Jasper.

"There's a newborn just outside Volterra. I think we should make sure she knows the rules." He nodded. We jumped out the window and ran to the city limits. She was just outside the city, wearing with herself not to go on.

"Don't do it Autumn, you'll hurt someone. But you have to! You'll just get thirstier! Who cares? If you weren't supposed to drink from humans, why do they taste so good?" Blah blah, you get the message. She had curly light brown hair and was a little taller than me. Her eyes were bright, bright red, and they spaced out every so often as she paced. Then she noticed us. The look on her eyes grew afraid and she turned and ran away.

"We can't let her leave!" Jasper growled and started after her. I sighed and followed him.

"Wait! We don't want to hurt you!"

"Leave me alone! You are just like the one that did this to me! I don't want to be a monster!" She screamed back to me. I looked at Jasper imploringly, all he sent out a wave of calm. The girl relaxed enough to slow down and stop. She turned back to us, but there was still fear in her eyes.

"I'm sorry. I didn't want to cause trouble, but I haven't hunted in so long, and I was so thirsty." Her pupils dilated.

"Easy now. You can't hunt here. The Volturi will kill you." I explained.

"Who?" She asked with genuine curiosity. I sighed.

"The Volturi are the rulers of our world. They enforce the law and it's punishments to disobedience."

"Oh. I thought the only rules were to stay out of the Sun and avoid wooden stakes and holy water. But it's always been cloudy wherever I went, so I just tried avoiding people entirely." She sat on a rock.

"I was on a camping trip with my friends. He just showed up, and I had to watch while he killed every one of them. He changed me, but I got away as soon as I woke up." She started dry sobbing. I stepped closer, but Jasper put a hand on my shoulder.

"Be careful." He muttered. I rolled my eyes and waved over to her.

"I'm sorry. Do you want to tell us more about yourself?" She nodded. She along off her bag and drug through it.

"My name is Autumn Delilah Summers. 2 months ago, my friends and I went camping for a weekend. I promised my mom and dad we were okay alone without any adult supervision.

"When we got to the camp site, everything was fine. It wasn't the second night. Some vampire guy and a bunch of girls that kind of looked like him attacked us. Whoever the guy was, he saved me for last, but he just bit me- He didn't even try to drink my blood. The next three days were hell, the worst days of my life. I thought I was dying, but instead I turned into this. One of the girls was watching me when I woke up, but I was thirsty, so I bit her. Then I ran.

"My birthday was a month ago; I was turning 16. Here's my learners permit." I took the picture and stared at it. Autumn looked pretty much the same except her skin wasn't so pale, and her eyes were bluish green. She looked happy in the picture, in contrast to how she looked now. Then thunder boomed and it began to pour down.
