One Shots/Drabbles

Timid Artist

"I'm nervous." Evie said, fiddling with her necklace. Edric squeezed her arm.

"Don't be, I'm sure they'll think your art's amazing." He said simply. Evie (with his help, of course) had put up some of her favorite pieces in a small gallery that her art teacher had procured, and today was the grand opening. Edric was there for support. Besides, he wouldn't miss his best friend's gallery for the world. Especially her first.

Evie heard the door open, and she took a deep breath. She tugged on Edric's arm, signaling she wanted him to lead her around. He took her around the gallery, telling her which piece they were passing as they passed it. It was a practiced routine with them. When they stopped in front of Evie's portrait of Edric, he told the artist that someone was looking at it.

"Hello miss!" Evie said politely in the direction Edric had her pointed. She hoped she was facing the woman.

"Hello! Are you the artist?"

"If you're saying that to me then yes." Evie laughed. "And this one's my model for this particular piece." She added, leaning her head on Edric's shoulder.

And so it went for the rest of the show, Edric leading Evie towards people who had questions or comments, and Evie talking to them. 'Yes, I'm blind. Yes, I draw him a lot because it's the easiest to do. I've been drawing since I could remember. Sculpting is easier but drawing and painting is more fun.' The usual things she'd expect.

When the gallery was over Edric and Evie waved goodbye to the patrons, and Evie's teacher walked over with a large smile on her face.

"That was a success Evie!" She cheered. Evie smiled.

"Thank you, Ms. Burgins." She said sincerely.

"And a very special person came here today..." Ms. Burgins trailed off. Evie's jaw dropped.

"The collector was here?! And you didn't have me talk to him?!" She cried, slapping Edric's arm.

"Ow! Rude!" He laughed.

"He said he'd love to have a long talk with you. I daresay he means an interview."

Evie jumped on Edric in a kiss.
