Screampaw twitched her whiskers, the chilly night air tickling her nose as she padded through the dense forest to the river. She crouched near the shoreline, her pawtips touching the waters edge as she bowed her head to lap the water from the river. she leapt swiftly onto a large boulder and perched on the very top, her unusual violet eyes sweeping the river until the spotted another cat crouched near the water. she leapt back down, her gaze locked on the cat. She pounced onto stepping stones until she got to the other side. The cat was sitting upright now, staring into the night sky as Screampaw recognized him as Birdpaw. She let out a sigh of relief, grateful it wasn't a rogue or loner. She trotted silently up to him, but he paid no attention to her, transfixed on the starry skies. She sat next to him and nudged him softly with a paw. His head whipped around to see her, his eyes wide.
"You startled me" He purred and flicked her playfully over the ear with his tail.
She looked back at him "Sorry, I didn't mean to".
"It's fine, I wasn't doing much" he mewed.
"Why are you out here anyways"? She questioned curiously.
"I couldn't sleep, that's all" He murmured and shook out his blue grey pelt.
"Me neither" she looked down at the minnows swimming in the shallow part of the river. The moonlight hit her white pelt and caused an eerie glow. Birdpaw padded off, his tail brushing against her as he left.
Screampaw got up and tilted her head in curiosity "Where are you going"? She asked softly.
"to climb a tree" Birdpaw mewed stoppong and looking back at her.
"Um, why"? she asked again suspiciously.
"For fun" He smiled and bounded off. She raced after him until she caught up. They raced side by side through the thick forest until they came to a stop at a giant elm tree. Birdpaw launched himself up the tree, his jagged claws hooking into the rough bark as he hauled himself up onto a thick branch. Screampaw crouched, wriggling her haunches and leapt, scampering up the tree and next to him. The breeze blew in her face causing her to wobble a little but she quickly regained her balance.
"It's nice up here" She meowed and looked around "Hey I can see camp"! She exclaimed joyfully.
Birdpaw followed her gaze and purred "yeah".
"And there's fourtrees" She mewed in awe.
"Are you excited for the hunting games"? Birdpaw asked, his tail hanging from the branch and swaying in the breeze.
"I guess, i'm not that great of a hunter. And no one will want to be my partner" She sighed.
After a few moments Birdpaw replied "I would".
She looked up at him.
