Part XVII

~Sakura~

Everything looks like it's in slow motion. Tenten slowly pushes Ino, and her body slowly bounces from step to step as she shrieks. Everything seems to go back to normal time when I hear the thunk of her head on the ground at the end of the stairs.

I've never heard Sai scream so loudly, nor have I seen him run so fast down stairs. Out of the corner of my eye, I spot Tenten running. "Ino!" Sai cries, stooping down to pick her up.

"Don't touch her!" I shriek from the top of the stairs. Sai freezes and looks up at me with question and worry in his eyes. "If you move her, you could injure her further." He looks up at me helplessly, tears in his eyes.

"I'm going after Tenten," Sasuke declares. "She needs to pay for this."

"No you're not," I say to him. "Go get lady Tsunade or nurse Shizune, now. We need to get her medical attention." I command. He looks at me understandingly, and he sprints off.

I rush down the stairs and find kneel above Ino, beside Sai.

"Is she breathing?" Sai asks frantically. "Is she going to be okay?!"

"We need to stay calm," I say, not sure if it was directed at Sai or myself. Tears of fear are beginning to form in my eyes. Ino lays sprawled out on the floor, eyes shut and unmoving. Her body is completely unresponsive.

"What's going on!?" Naruto's voice sounds. He and Hinata are sprinting down the stairwell. "I saw Tenten running, and I knew something was up!"

"Oh my gosh, Ino!" Cries Hinata as they reach the bottom of the stairs. "What happened?"

"I'll explain later," I say weakly to them, trying to control myself. Sai has tears streaming down his cheeks, but isn't making a sound as he gazes upon his injured date. I've never seen Sai so upset before, let alone cry.

"Alright where is she!?" A booming female voice calls at the top of the staircase and down rushes Lady Tsunadai, the school nurse Shizune, and Sasuke.

"Has anyone touched her since she fell?" Asks Shizune seriously as she examines Ino.

"No," Sai says. "Sakura made sure of it."

"Sakura was right to," Shizune states. "Should she have a spinal injury, than moving her could worsen it. Paramedics are on their way."

Tsunadai whispers to a teacher to keep the curious students that are congregating back. Soon enough paramedics rush in with a stretcher and rush her away in an ambulance, and we remain and Sasuke is calm enough to explain what happened to Tsunade, Hinata, and Naruto. I occasionally nod to confirm that what he's saying is true, but Sai and I are unable to speak. Our minds are on Ino's condition.

"I'll let the Yamanaka's know of the story and inform them of their daughter's location. It'll be up to them if they want to press charges," says Tsunadai.

"They should," grumbles Sasuke. "Tenten can't get away with it."

"Sasuke I know you're upset, but there's something you need to know," Shizune says calmly. "Tenten is mentally ill. She is normally able to keep it under control with medical aid, but for all we know, she may have been refusing her medications. By the way you described it, it seems she may have not been taking her anti-psychotics and had a fit. You cannot completely blame her."

Every single horrible thought I've thought about Tenten come back to me, making me feel even more guilty about everything.

"I'm going to the hospital," Sai announces weakly. He gets up and leaves us and we all watch a broken boy walk away.
