"You're acting weird, Liz. Should I be worried?" I ask Liz, who looked deep in her thoughts.
We had finally managed to find an empty table and we were having dinner now. Sophia and Irene had gone to get us our desserts, while Vivian was on phone next to us. Liz looked very disturbed about something and she hadn't spoken a word since she saw Kevin.
"No. Don't be. I just think I've seen him somewhere." She answered, getting up from her seat. "I'll just go talk to him and be right back, okay?"
She took her now half-empty plate and walked off without even leaving me the opportunity to ask her anything further. I watched her as she dropped her plate off at the dustbin and took two dessert plates and moved ahead again. She was heading to Kevin's table where he looked like he was having a very enjoyable time with his friends.
"What's she doing?" I heard Sophia ask but I was too busy concentrating on Liz to answer.
Kevin got up from his seat as Liz called him from behind. He didn't seem to act as paranoid as Liz was acting. Liz offered him one of the desserts and they laughed lightly. They looked like they were having a normal conversation.
"Is she flirting with him?" Irene whispered next to me.
"No." I whispered back and turned. That's when I noticed, all four of us were literally gawking at them. It was funny and at the same time, very embarrassing. "Guys, we look stupid!"
"Shh! Focus." Vivian shushed me.
"Yeh, who cares?" Sophia agreed.
I shrugged and turned around to continue with our gawking. Liz and Kevin were now standing near the swing in the lawn. He seemed pretty friendly with her. Kevin, very unexpectedly, looked at us and I for sure, looked like an idiot. I heard the girls mumble, giggle and then turned around. However, I was frozen in place. I felt like I was caught red-handed. He looked at me and there was a small smile lingering on his face. He raised his eyebrows and gave me a dimple-filled, toothy smile. That's when I got unfrozen. I smiled back and I saw Liz laugh next to him. I felt so lame and stupid, that my shoulders looped down reflexively and I turned back around. The girls were laughing their hearts out at my little embarrassing moment.
"Let's not talk about that again." I said, looking at them desperately.
They covered their mouths with their hands and nodded.
"What is she doing anyway?" Sophia asked, confused, as she began eating the now melted ice-cream.
"I don't know. She seems to know him from somewhere." I shrugged.
We didn't bother to look back at them again. The excitement and curiosity soon died off as we began taking photos of us. People were starting to leave and there were very few guests left. Vivian had to go home too because she was too sleepy. Sophia and I helped Irene with the cleaning. As I was cleaning one of the tables, I could see Liz and Kevin still talking they knew each other their whole lives.
"Arii!" Liz called.
No. No. You didn't !
I chose to act as if I didn't hear her and walked towards the garbage can to dispose of the waste. My pace increased reflexively as I went to help Sophia inside.
"Arena!" Liz shouted this time and it was hard to ignore.
I turned around and waved at her, trying to look as natural as possible. She asked me to go over to where they were. Kevin was on phone with someone thankfully, so I quickly went up to her. I didn't know why, but I was so terrified of even the idea of talking to him.
