Chapter 6
After Peeta's last interview with Caesar, everyone seems to be walking on the tip of their toes when their around me, except for Finnick and Gale. They do as much as they can to avoid talking about other things than the propos.
Finnick and I are better than we've ever been; we're finally on the same page about the revolution and what we have to do. He hasn't told me he loves me again but if he does, I think I'll prbably tell him that I do too.
When Finnick and I are eating in the cafeteria, Gale comes and sits on our table across from us. "Did you see the interview the other day?" he asks.
Finnick looks at me before saying anything and I nod while I stare down at my plate.
"Can't believe he said that," Gale says. "I would never do that. Not if they tortured me or pointed a gun to my head-"
"Come on, Gale," Finnick says. "You don't know why he said it."
"Yes, I do. Because he's a traitor. He was never in favor of a revolution!"
I finally lift my head and look at Gale. "It's true, he never wanted the war, and yes, he wants to stop it, but you don't know why he's saying what he's saying. I'd like to see you get tortured till your breaking point and then we'll see what you would and wouldn't do."
"They destroyed his home and he's saying this? Is physical torture really worse that what they've already done?" he says, clutching his fist so that his knuckles turn white.
And then it hits me. "He doesn't know," I whisper. "I mean, how could he? He doesn't know what happened to Twelve. We need to show him."
When I tell Plutarch about my idea of going to what's left of Twelve, he practically jumps and begins talking really fast with Cressida about how we can use my surroundings for a more shocking result. A couple of hours later we are on the hovercraft and ready to go.
Finnick sits next me and hold my hand, knowing that seeing Twelve again will be hard for me; especially now, that I really have to show people how destroyed everything, including me, is.
"It's okay, it won't be long," Finnick says.
I nod as I let out a shaky breath. "Hey, um," I mumble. "Is it okay if we kind of keep our distance today? I just don't want Peeta to see us yet."
And it's true but also, I don't want people in Thirteen to see us either.
Finnick frowns a bit but then relaxes. "Sure. We'll tell him in person when we rescue him," he assures me.
I smile and kiss him on the cheek. "Thank you."
The ride on the hovercraft is quick and before we know it, we're landing on the remains of Twelve, again. Seeing it again makes me think of it more as a reality than it did last time I saw it. Cressida insist on filming me on some spots from the district but all the cameras go to Gale, when he begins narrating what happened the night everything caught fire.
He talks about how everything went black after I shot the arrow and then all the peacekeepers left, knowing what was coming. Then he heard the hovercrafts and saved everyone he could and took them to the lake where him and I used to fish.
My eyes fill up with tears just imagining all the people that didn't make it. People I knew from the Hob, school... all dead because of me.
We film a little more and then Cressida let's me go to my house in the Victor's Village to get some extra things for my mom. Finnick asks me if it's okay if he comes, to which I nod and grab his arm. We walk in silence mostly out of respect to what surrounds us.
