Chapter 11

Cheryl was starting to get worried. It was late afternoon and Kimberley still hadn’t showed up. What if she’d changed her mind? What if Justin had somehow managed to talk her around again? Or worse, what if he’d hurt her again? Cheryl couldn’t bear the thought of it. She couldn’t keep still; every time she sat down she’d get straight back up and start pacing around again, constantly checking her phone.

Just as she was considering going over to Kimberley’s flat to make sure everything was ok, the doorbell rang. Cheryl sprinted over and flung the door open. Kimberley was standing on the other side with bloodshot eyes. But her face cracked into a smile when she saw Cheryl, and she stepped forward to pull her into a tight hug. All of Cheryl’s worries disappeared once she was in Kimberley’s arms – as far as she was concerned this was where she always wanted to be. They stood like that for a few minutes before Cheryl took Kimberley’s hand and pulled her inside.

“How did he take it?” Cheryl asked sympathetically as they sat down on the huge leather sofa, Cheryl still holding Kimberley’s hand.

Kimberley sighed. “Not great, but I think he was expecting me to end it. It’s just a horrible thing to have to do, I really didn’t want to hurt him.”

“I know, but babe you can’t stay with someone just because you don’t want to hurt them. Did you say anything about us?”

“No. The relationship had turned sour before I’d even met you, so I didn’t have to lie about anything. At first he really tried to convince me to stay, but then he realised it was too late. That was when it got so hard – we were both crying. He’s there now, packing up his stuff.”

“How do you feel about it all now?” Cheryl asked, concerned at how upset Kimberley sounded.

“To be honest I’m just glad it’s finally over.”

“And about us?” Cheryl asked quietly.

Kimberley leaned into Cheryl and kissed her.

“Does that answer your question?!” Kimberley laughed.

“Actually do you think you could repeat that please – I didn’t quite catch it!” Cheryl giggled. Kimberley didn’t need to be asked twice. She kissed Cheryl again, pushing her down flat on the sofa and moving on top of her. Cheryl wrapped her arms around Kimberley’s neck, pulling her closer. Kimberley ran her tongue along Cheryl’s bottom lip, hinting at Cheryl to open her mouth, to which she did. Cheryl tangled her legs with Kimberley’s while eliciting numerous moans as Kimberley rubbed her hand up and down Cheryl’s thigh. After several minutes, Cheryl broke the kiss.

“Wow, I can safely say that is the best answer I’ve ever received to any question I’ve asked!” Cheryl laughed out of breath.

“Oh really?” Kimberley enquired, raising an eyebrow at Cheryl.

“Yep! But I think we should stop...for now, you know, slow it down a bit...” Cheryl blushed.

Kimberley giggled. “Is someone getting a bit hot and bothered?!”

This only made Cheryl blush even more, so Kimberley moved off her and lay down next to her.

“Is it wrong for me to be feeling so happy right now when only a short while ago I was breaking up with my long term boyfriend?”

Cheryl turned her head to look at her and lightly ran her thumb over the bruise on Kimberley’s face, which was now turning a shade of yellow.

“No, I think someone like you deserves to be happy, you shouldn’t have had to wait so long for it.” Cheryl finished by giving Kimberley a kiss on the cheek.
