Chapter 12
Kimberley woke up and smiled when she remembered where she was. She rolled over and gasped when she saw the clock next to the bed – it was almost midday! She hastily got dressed and made her way downstairs, where she found Cheryl walking out of the living room.
“Afternoon!” Cheryl laughed at Kimberley and leaned in for a kiss. Kimberley smiled into the kiss.
“I don’t normally sleep for so long – you should have woken me!”
“I considered it but when I went into your room you looked so peaceful, I didn’t want to disturb you! Besides, you’ve had a crazy couple of days; you need all the sleep you can get. Do you want breakfast or lunch?!” Cheryl joked as she led her to the kitchen.
“Um...what’s on offer?” Kimberley giggled in response.
“Well...” Cheryl opened the fridge, only to swiftly close it. “Cereal! I don’t really have much other food in the house, is that ok?”
“That’s perfect!” Kimberley smiled and kissed Cheryl as she sat down at the table.
“Listen, about tonight,” Cheryl started as Kimberley tucked into her breakfast, “Are you going to tell the girls about us?” Cheryl fiddled with her hands nervously.
Kimberley sat back in her chair. “No, I don’t think so. I mean I hadn’t planned to just yet, is that ok?”
Cheryl smiled in relief. “Yeah, that’s great. I was hoping we could keep it to ourselves for now – I mean it’s barely been 24 hours!”
“I agree with you there,” Kimberley laughed.
“I have to get going soon, I need to go to London for that meeting.” Cheryl rolled her eyes. Ideally she wanted to spend the day with Kimberley, but Hillary had been reminding her how important today’s meeting was.
“Ok, just please promise me you will show up tonight.” Kimberley said as she got up to put her empty bowl in the dishwasher.
“I will,” Cheryl assured, “I just have no idea when.”
Kimberley nodded and went into the living room to find her bag. “I better get going then,” she said as she got her car keys out.
“Do you want me to come with you to your flat?” Cheryl asked as she followed her over to the door.
Kimberley shook her head. “Thanks, but I’ll be fine.” Cheryl looked at her, unsure. “I will, you’re such a worrier Cheryl!”
“Can you text me when you get there, just so I know everything’s ok?”
Kimberley smiled and nodded. She loved that Cheryl was so concerned about her, even when there was no need to be.
Cheryl put her arms around Kimberley’s waist and kissed her gently.
“I don’t want you to go!” Cheryl whined.
“Well it’s you who has a meeting to get to, so it’s all your fault!” Kimberley joked.
“Don’t say that Kimberley!” Cheryl squealed. “I’d never leave the house if I had it my way, and I certainly wouldn’t let you leave either!” Cheryl added the last bit with a cheeky wink.
Kimberley laughed and kissed Cheryl once more. “Hmm, that does sound good...” She said in between kisses. She traced her tongue around Cheryl’s lips. “...too bad you don’t have your way!” And with that Kimberley quickly pulled away from her, winked and walked out of the house.
‘The cheeky b!tch!’ Cheryl thought, but couldn’t stop herself from smiling.
