I have my boundaries, the lines that if I ever crossed would be unbearable anger from both my mother and my father. They had repeatedly told me before that they loved me from the moon and back, and I, had repeatedly told them, "I know".
Though I had more than enough questions to ask them, I had never really had the courage to spit them out. I seemed to choke on my words. They've explained to me that I must never go to a public school because of how high the risks of danger there are.
My memory still goes back to the times when I was younger, I'd ask them a mouthful of questions, but they'd never respond. Eventually, it became so much to even ask, so it stopped. My curiosity and my suspicions, halted. Still to this very day, my questions haven't stopped circling my head. I crave the answers that I have wondered about for years.
My feet crunched a twig, startling me in the slightest way. I turn to look at the small crook that I had just discovered about a month ago. I sat at the edge of the crook and hung my feet from it. The slight breeze of upcoming spring tickles my skin, sending goose bumps to the surface.
I look up at the dull gray sky, my mind wonders off as I think about how I use to trace the clouds with my fingers. I take my socks and shoes off, and lightly dip my toes in, then slowly move down to my whole foot.
I smile at the sensation of the cold water on my skin. I kick my feet back and forth sending the water up and making I splash. I continued on, until I heard the faint voice of my mother calling me."Marlinda?" I heard her wail from behind the crowd of trees. I shot up from the edge and from doing so, I lost balance and fell in to the crook. My body felt light as it fell in, as it hit the water, my mind went in all sorts of directions.
I instantly saw the edge as soon as I opened my eyes in the crystal water, and reached for it. I gripped the slippery grass and the muddy soil, as I pulled myself out.
"Gah!" I coughed out. My mother stood inches away from me as I wiped my wet face from the water. Her glare specifically worried me.
"Is this what you go out of your way to do before dinner Marlinda? Hm?" She asked me as she crossed her arms.I looked up at her with my mouth agape, and my mind searching for an answer. She harshly pulled my hair for me to get up off the ground, leading me to walk in that position as we reached the house.
She swiftly opened the door, it made its own noise as she did so. She threw me to the floor, slamming the door shut. I blew a few strands that were in the way of my eyes out of my face, and glanced over at her. Mother picked up a mop and a rusty bucket. She gripped both tightly and gestured for me to take it from her hands. I, with my careless self, lifted myself up from the tiled floor, and snatched it from her cold hands."Marlinda," Mother called out. I froze in my position while rolling my eyes, expecting the exact same words she's coughed out before whenever I would get into trouble. "Yes mother I know, dilemmas are only for those who choose to get involved in danger," I quietly stuttered. She smirked as she shuffled over to the kitchen's closet. I began my consequence of what she'd call irresponsible fun, when in reality, my temptation to be free had gotten the better of me.
I started by filling the bucket up with cold water, and dipped the mop in it. I slapped the wet strands against the floor, and began swiping away. My arms ached after a while of mopping the floor, I felt like at any minute they would just snap off.
I saw mother studying the shopping list that hung on the refrigerator ever since this morning. She nodded lightly and folded it in half.
"Marlinda, Finsih up and we'll take a trip to the store," My heart sped up as I heard her. I quickly wiped the spot I had missed earlier, and threw the mop back into the bucket.
"Done mother!" I wailed. She entered the living room to grab her coat and we headed out.
