The next day, I was absolutely exhausted. My eyes could barely stay open, feeling like they were being weighed down by an anchor. My movements were very sluggish as I walked into school. I walked very slowly towards my locker, getting a couple of "move out of the way" and "hurry up" by other students rushing to their locker.
Forgetting my combination for a couple of seconds, I heard Mason call out to me. I looked towards where his voice came from and saw him frantically walking towards me.
"You haven't seen Liam by any chance, have you?"
"No, why?"
"I went running with him today and I lost him. I'm just a little worried. I asked Scott but he doesn't know where he is either? Did he talk to you at all today?"
I shook my head no and he frowned.
"You okay?" he asked me.
"I'm just really tired. Can you open my locker? I can't even do that because of how tired I am." He smiled and asked for my combination. I told him and he slowly turned the dial to the three numbers of my combination lock.
Once he got my locker open, I grabbed two random notebooks out and shoved them in my bag.
"Let's go to class. I'm sure Liam is fine. Maybe he went home to change or something." He sighed and agreed. We walked down the hall, talking about what happened the night before with Violet. Mason was absolutely puzzled about the entire thing.
"We were friends with a serial killer. An actual serial killer."
"A serial killer couple, to be exact."
"Thanks for the correction," Mason said with a hint of disapproval in his voice. I smiled and wrapped my arms around his waist.
"You should've seen her," I said as I thought about her face. "The look of pure malice was just enough to scare even a monster. She had intentions of not letting me or Brett or Scott go that night." Mason looked at me and held me tighter in his arms.
I was genuinely sure I was going to die that night. Beacon Hills is straight out of a horror movie. We have monsters and serial killers. I'm not playing the main role, but I'm definitely filling up the slot of the dumb girl who doesn't say anything when she should. I mean, how many more times am I going to be attacked until I die? When do I go about tell my mother or any of my friends that I see monsters?
Or better yet, who is even going to believe me if I say anything?
Mason eventually dropped me off to my class and told me we would talk later. I blew him a kiss and entered my classroom.
The teacher began his lesson on the anatomy of a lizard, but I was more concerned with my hazy memory. As hard as I tried, I couldn't remember anything from last night.
Last night. I tried remembering what happened after I left the school. Liam came out and we walked to the park. I remembered us having a conversation about our relationship and him saying he couldn't be with me.
Then, nothing. It's like my memories were suppressed behind an invisible wall. Maybe it never even happened. Maybe I just had a dream. A really vivid one.
Class had ended after thirty minutes of me waking myself up to avoid getting in trouble. The day went horribly slow. I had a study hall period in which I caught forty-five minutes of sleep. Every other period was the same as the first: tiresome. Even lunch was hard. Mason tried to keep me up, but my body just wasn't having it.
Once lunch was over, I went to my last two classes and waited for the rest of the day to end. I couldn't help myself, so I ended up sleeping through both classes. Surprisingly, I didn't get caught. A blessing from the good lord, no doubt.
