Chapter 3

A Year and a Half Later

For the Fourth of July, Ryan and I stayed at my parent's house in Manhattan with my siblings and all of my nieces and nephews. I got ready in my old bedroom for mine and Ryan's date, it was surprise and he wouldn't tell me anything about it, except to dress casual.

I said goodbye to all my family as I went downstairs to meet Ryan at the door.

"Bye," Ryan said as he shut the door and we walked to his car.

"So where are you taking me Brooks?" I laughed as he opened the car door for me.

"I can't tell you it's a surprise," He smiled shutting my door.

I sighed as he walked around the car and getting in on the driver's side. He knows I don't like surprises. Ryan drove down the road and started driving around until he finally stopped the car in Central Park. Ryan came around and opened the door for me, "We're going to Central Park?"

"No, we're picnicking in Central Park," Ryan said opening the trunk and holding up a picnic basket and blanket.

"Fun," I answered smiling. He reached out for my hand and I took it as we walked through the park finally we set down the blanket and started eating. Ryan had packed some sandwiches and fruit with Coca-Cola in the old fancy glasses. After we finished dinner, he got out dessert which was cherry pie, my favorite, "So what now?" I asked Ryan after I ate the last of my pie.

"I don't know, want to go walk around?" He asked.

"Sure," I smiled. We walked back to the car and packed up the rest of the picnic and went walking through Central Park holding hands as the street lights turned on.

"I'm glad your family likes me," Ryan said.

I laughed, "I think everyone likes you."

"That's good," He answered.

"It's so pretty here," I said looking up through the trees and looking at the huge buildings.

"Hold up I have to tie my shoes," Ryan said leaning over.

I kept looking at the view, "You know I've lived here all my life and never really looked at New York City."

"Lucy," Ryan said.

"Hm?" I asked looking at all the pretty lights.

"Turn around," He laughed.

I turned around smiling and I gasped covering my mouth with my hands as I saw Ryan down on one knee. He took my hand and brought me closer and Ryan took out a box from his pocket and my eyes started to tear up.

"Lucy Green, I met you almost two years ago and I've loved you ever since, we've had our ups and downs, our fun times and bad but I've still loved you and will for the rest of my life and I want you to be a part of it, so Lucy Green will you do the honor of marrying me?"

I now had tears flowing freely down my face and I nodded yes, "Yes." Ryan slipped the beautiful ring onto my finger and got up and kissed me spinning me around in a circle.
