Aubrey
I was making breakfast when my mom walked into the kitchen. I looked away from the cereal that I was pouring into a bowl to look at her. As she walked in she had an arm covered over her mouth while she yawned. There were bags under her eyes from the little sleep she regularly got and the hair on the right side of her head was tousled.
"Hey Honey." She said making her way over to me.
"Morning Mom." I said tilting my head for her to place a kiss on the top of it. She then made her way to the coffee machine.
"Sorry you couldn't wait up for me yesterday." My Mom said pushing a button on the coffee maker.
"We had a stubborn patient who just had a hip surgery." She said leaning against the counter, waiting for her coffee. You could hear the hot beverage filling into the coffee pot.
"It's alright." I said, as I always did.My Mom was a nurse so it wasn't unusual that she worked late. She worked a lot, long hours too, and almost always got home late. I was already used to it.
"Would you like some cereal?" I asked as I poured some milk into my bowl of cereal.
"Thanks Honey, but no. I'll just stick to my coffee." She replied as she grabbed a mug from one of the cupboards. I just nodded my head as a response as I grabbed a spoon from one of the drawers and then made my way to a stool at the kitchen island.Once my Mom poured some coffee for herself she walked closer to the island and leaned on it, facing me. She held the mug to her lips, steam rising out of the cup, and mumbled.
"Anything new?" She asked. I was in the middle of chewing a large spoonful of cereal when she asked. I gulped it down and shrugged my shoulders, a small smile creeping on my face."There is, isn't there?" My Mom smiled, her eyes begging for the answer. I looked down at my cereal, noticing that it began to lose its crunch by the way it looked. I smiled before scooping up another spoonful.
"I might have met someone. And we're hanging out after work." I mumbled before putting the spoonful of cereal into my mouth.
"You met someone, who?" My Mom said as a large smile spread on her face.I looked up at her and shrugged not really sure how I was going to explain to her that I met Shawn Mendes.
"Well, he's not the average Joe." I said placing my spoon in the cereal and letting it sit there. My mom looked confused at first.
"What do you mean 'he's not the average'..." She didn't finish her sentence and instead rushed into a new one.
"Please don't tell me that he has tons of piercings, painted fingernails and pink hair." My Mother said crossing her fingers on both hands.
"He doesn't." I said trying to hold in my laughter caused by her serious tone.
"Oh," she mumbled with a sigh of relief, "then what do you mean by 'he's not the average Joe'?" She asked. I guess there was no other way to tell her but to be straight up and honest.
"He's famous." I said. She looked at me for a moment with a puzzled expression on her face.
"Famous?" She asked. Before I could even nod my head she began to laugh as if I had been joking. She stopped laughing when she realized I hadn't joined in the laughter."I met Shawn Mendes yesterday." I said. I was about to tell her a little bit about him but she spoke up before I had.
"I know who he is. A little girl at the hospital, who had a surgery a few days ago, says she loves him. She was telling me all about him while she was showing me one of his music videos. He's cute." She said."So, is it like a date?" She asked.
"No." I replied, not really sure if it was or not.
"Oh," she said, "how did you bump in to him?". I laughed at her choice of wording. She just stared at me with a confused expression. It was more of an inside joke so I wasn't expecting her to understand my laughter. I literally had bumped into Shawn when I met him, that was why I found it so funny. Once I had stopped laughing I explained everything to her, starting from when I had bumped into him at the café.By the time I was done telling my Mom everything it was already time for me to get ready for work.
"It sounds like a date to me." My Mom said grabbing my empty bowl and placing it in the sink behind her. I just playfully rolled my eyes making my Mom grin.
"I have to go get ready." I said hopping off of the stool.
"Alright. Oh and Aubrey," she said causing me to turn around and face her, "I'm going to be working the night shift tonight. I'll probably be gone by the time you get home.".
What else was new?
"Okay." I responded and turned back around.
"Have fun on your date!" She called just before I was about to run up the stairs.
"But be safe!" She said. I rolled my eyes once again.
"Don't worry about it, and it's not a date." I chuckled. And with that said I ran up the stairs to go get ready.Shawn
I looked at the time on the microwave as I poured some cereal into a bowl for my little sister. It was just about ten o'clock.
"So, it's a date?" Aaliyah asked, her head tilted to the side with confusion written on her face. She sat on a stool against the kitchen island, watching me as I made her breakfast.
"No one said it was a date." I said as I walked to the fridge to look for the carton of milk.
"Then you're using her?" She questioned. After closing the fridge door I turned around to look at Aaliyah.
"What? No." I replied shaking my head.
"I asked her to hangout to get to know her, that's all. What's the crime in that?" I asked after pouring some milk in the bowl.
"I think you asked to hangout because you hope that she'll help you write your album." She said causing me to look up at her. I didn't know what to reply with. Aaliyah was right, that is why I had asked. I wasn't using her though because a part of me was curious to get to know her as well."Here's your cereal." I said with no expression on my face as I placed the bowl of cereal in front of her. She chuckled before jumping off of the stool.
"Thanks." She replied. And just before she walked out of the kitchen she looked back at me and spoke up.
"If I don't run into you before you leave... Have a nice date!" She said.
"It's not a date!" I called as she walked out of the kitchen. I shook my head but couldn't help but smile.I looked down to the island's table top and my eyes skimmed over the cereal box and milk. I had a lot of time to kill before I had to go pick up Aubrey. I sighed and put both the cartoon of milk and cereal box away. I then slowly walked towards the stairs and made my way to my room. With all the hours I had to spare I decided that I should try to write, even though that was the last thing I could do with my writers block. Even if I came up with nothing in the time I had at least I tried. Once I got to my bedroom I shut the door behind me and went to my desk, ready to stress myself out.

I looked at the clock on a near by wall that let me know I had only ten minutes left until my shift was over. I moved my gaze towards the back of the room where I watched Bobby help out a family who were looking at the clarinets. Shawn would be here soon, I thought. A small smile couldn't help but creep on my face. I was a bit nervous to hang out with Shawn because I haven't went out with a guy in a while. Heck, I haven't went out much with anyone recently in that matter. I didn't mind doing my own thing.
Just then the bell above the door rang making me avert my gaze to the entrance. Through the door walked in a familiar creature. I chuckled to myself. It was Shawn. He smiled once his eyes caught mine.
"Hey." He said as he made his way over to the counter I was currently sitting behind.
"Hi." I replied. He wore another sweater, yet this time it was burgundy. He wore black skinny jeans as well as black vans to go along with the outfit. He still had a hood pulled over his head too. He looked good.
"I don't get off for another ten minutes." I said looking at the clock passed his head.
"That's alright, I'll wait for you." He smiled making me smile too. He must of had that affect on people.Just then Bobby came behind the counter.
"Hello Shawn." He said as he grabbed a paper from underneath the counter.
"Hey Bobby." Shawn replied. Bobby then looked over at me.
"You can go now Aubs, I can handle it from here." He said with a smile.
"Really, are you sure?" I asked, getting up from the stool I had been sitting on.
Bobby gave me a nod before making his way back to the family he was helping.
"Thank you!" I called.
I looked back over at Shawn and smiled.
"Let me just go grab my stuff, and we can go?" I asked. Shawn nodded his head.
"Perfect." He replied. And with that said I quickly walked into the back room and grabbed my jacket and shoulder bag."I'm ready." I said walking towards the entrance of the shop where Shawn stood. He stared at the wall just next to the door. Shawn looked my way for a second before looking back at the wall. He lifted his arm and pointed towards it.
"Didn't he say the picture was for his daughter?" Shawn asked.
I looked at the wall and chuckled. There on the wall was the picture of both Shawn and Bobby. It was framed too. I hadn't noticed it when I walked into work. I began to laugh.
"He did, but he also had other ulterior motives." I chucked. I grabbed Shawn by the arm and tried my best to pull him out of the store.
"Let's go!" I said, and that is exactly what we did.///
