Aubrey
"'And if this is what it takes, then let me be the one to bear the pain. Oh if this is what it takes, I-". The bell above the entrance door rung, startling me, causing me to stop singing and playing. Right away I turned towards the entrance to set my eyes on a boy. He was tall, wore vans, black skinny jeans and a hood over his head. It took me a moment to realize that I had seen this guy less than an hour ago. I couldn't be sure if this was a coincidence or not.
"It was you," He said with a smile, "You were the one playing and singing.".
"I had a feeling." He mumbled more to himself than to me.
I smiled politely and then closed the case over the piano's keys before standing up and facing the guy who still stood near the entrance.
"You have a beautiful voice." He said causing me to blush. I was so embarrassed and startled that he had walked in on me singing. I turned my head to the side waiting for the burning in my cheeks to subside.
"Those lyrics were beautiful. It must be an original song, right? Because I have never heard it before." He said, causing me to look back over at him. He just looked over at me waiting for an answer. I nodded my head shyly.Just then my eyes had glanced at the thing he had held between his arm and rib cage, and looking at it closer I had realized that it was a folder. Specifically it was my folder. My eyes grew wide, how did he have it?
"That's mine." I said reaching forward to grab the folder from underneath his arm. He beat me to it and grabbed it himself.
"Oh yeah, that's why I'm here. You seemed to have left this on the table at the café." He said handing me my folder.
"I thought you would need it back, it looks pretty important." He said placing his hands in his jean pockets.I then began to wonder if he read through it, making me feel nervous. No one besides me has ever looked through my music before.
"You, you looked through it?" I asked, holding the folder against my stomach. He nodded before replying.
"Yeah, I appologise if that offends you. But if it makes you feel any better I didn't read all of it." He chuckled causing me to slightly smile.
"Plus," he said, "From what I read, I thought it was really good.".
I couldn't help but blush yet again.
"Thanks." I replied as I walked to the back of the counter and placed my folder on it. The boy followed but stayed on the other side of the counter. He rested his arms on the counter's surface as did I.
"Did you ever think about doing anything with your music?" He asked.
"No, not really. It's more of a hobby for myself I guess." I replied. The boy just nodded his head as a response.Looking at him I couldnt help but realize how familiar he looked. I couldn't remember from where but I was sure that if he wasn't wearing a hood I probably would have figured it out by now.
"You look really familiar." I said as I tried to look into his hood better.
"Do I?"' He asked with a smile.
"Well, you ran into me at the café." He said. I shook my head before replying.
"I did, but I feel that I know you from else where." I replied, squinting at him as I thought.
"I'm familiar to everbody." He chuckled.
He removed his hood and right then I knew that I had seen him before, not in person but on television and magazines. He was the boy who grew up around here and just recently made it big in the music industry.
"I'm Shawn." He said lifting his hand to shake mine.
"Mendes?" I asked grasping his hand.
"Hey, that's my last name!" He joked as if I had referred to myself as Mendes. I couldn't help but laugh at his joke.
"My name's Aubrey." I chuckled as we both pulled our hands away.Shawn just smiled. I never took much thought to how he looked in magazines or on Tv but as he stood in front of me I couldn't help but think about how cute he was in person.
Coincidently out of no where the radio behind me began to play a familiar song. The coincidence had been that the artist of the song was standing right in front of me.
"'I love it when you just don't care, I love it when you dance like there's nobody there.'", it was Shawn's song "Life Of The Party". I just looked at Shawn and slighlty chuckled as he just looked at me with a wide smile. Before either of us could say anything Bobby came out from the back room.
"Hey Aubrey," Bobby said squinting at the printing on the package he held, "we got some new clarinets from the packages that were delivered this morning.".
"That's great." I replied before smiling back at Shawn.
Bobby looked up from the box for a split second to look back and then have to look back up to do a double take. He squinted as he looked over at Shawn, clearly thinking to himself. Bobby released one hand from underneath the package he held to point between the stereo and Shawn a few times. Then he left his hand pointed at Shawn."You're Shawn Mendes!" Bobby said looking over at me for a split second before looking back at Shawn.
"You're the guy on my youngest daughter's wall." he said amazed. Shawn stood up straighter with a smile on his face.
"Yes I am, well that I'm Shawn Mendes that is. I don't know anything about being on your daughter's wall." Shawn said making both Bobby and I chuckle.
"Shawn this is Bobby," I said looking at him, "he's my boss." I finished looking over at Bobby.
"Hey, do you mind if I get a picture with you? My daughter's going to be so jealous." Bobby said with a smile.
"Sure." Shawn chuckled as Bobby handed his phone over to me to take the picture. After taking the photo Bobby went back to the back room to look through the packages that had been dropped off earlier. Shawn still stood on the other side of the counter as I stayed behind it.
"Bobby," I mumbled looking at Shawn, "he can be a bit crazy at times." I chuckled.
"I heard that!" We heard Bobby yell from the back room. By the tone of his voice I could tell he hadn't taken offense to it. Shawn and I just left our laughter die down and once it did it was quiet for a while. I looked down at my fingers as I played with them unsure what to say. He had come here to drop off my folder, which he had done, so I was curious as to why he hadn't left yet. Didn't he have celebrity things to do?"Thank you for returning my folder. It was nice of you to take some of your time to do that for me." I said looking back up at him.
"Yeah, no problem." Shawn replied with a smile. He had a very nice smile. After a moment of silence he spoke up again.
"Uh, I just had a thought... Are you working tomorrow?" He asked.
"I am." I replied.
"What time do you get off?" He asked, causing a smile to creep on my face.
"Five thirty." I answered, curious as to why he was asking. He nodded.
"Can I come pick you up after work and maybe we can hang out for a bit?" He asked. Before I could even think for myself Bobby shouted from the back room.
"She would love too!" He said causing Shawn to chuckle.
Slightly embarrassed I put my face in my hands and shook my head. When I looked back up Shawn still had his eyes on me. He raised his eyebrows, waiting for me to answer myself.
"Alright." I said. Shawn tapped his fist on the counter and nodded his head.
"Alright," He smiled, "I'll see you then.". Shawn backed away from the counter and headed towards the door. Bobby came out from the back room as Shawn placed his hood over his head.
"See you tomorrow Shawn." Bobby said causing Shawn to look back at him. Shawn lifted his hand, gesturing a goodbye, gave me a smile and then left the store. When I turned my head to look at Bobby I had noticed that his gaze still rested on the door.
"So," I said as I rested my back against the counter and faced Bobby, "did you really just want that picture to make Jessica jealous?" I asked. Bobby averted his gaze over to me.
"Yes, that and he's the first celebrity to ever walk into my store!" Bobby said. He pointed to a wall near the entrance of the store.
"It's going on that wall." He said before turning away and going back in to the back room. I shook my head and couldn't help but laugh. I was working for a lunatic.///
