It was the weekend. And I had successfully kept Zayn and my friends distant. Zayn wasn't oblivious to this, but Meghan was practically killing me to see him. Something about telling him that if he broke my heart, she'd break him. I didn't doubt it. When Joshua and I broke up, she punched him right across the face and his nose bled. He didn't bother hitting back as Meghan was a black belt in Karate. So I was a bit afraid of introducing her to Zayn.
We were shopping today, and somehow, Zayn knew. I had just received a text saying that he would meet us at the mall. Terrific. I guess today is the Introduction day.
The three of us strode into the mall looking all intimidating. While Adrienne was all prim and proper -she was wearing blue skinny jeans and a purple shirt that said 'scream'-, Meghan was giving boy clothing a run for their money. She wore a long black six-pocketed trousers, and a dark green hoodie that revealed her neatly tied corn-rows. While contrary to Adrienne's two inch heels, she wore a pair of DCShoes. My style was edged somewhere in between their tastes of clothing.
"So, where to first?" Adrienne asked as her eyes widened at the Dolce and Gabana, Gucci, and Louis Vitoun shops. She had a real taste on feminine clothing. I remember all the clothing debates between the two, I would always be the judge.
"You choose." I insisted, knowing that she gladly would. She scanned all the shops until we arrived in front of one of the largest boutiques I've. ever seen. On the top, the sign read in styled handwriting with the logo.
COCO CHANEL.
We walked in and I was immediately left standing alone as they both made their way through the shop. I decided I'd take a look at the zebra patterned scarves that hung to the right. I took down a couple and tried them on for size in front of a large, polished mirror.
"I like this one on you." A voice I recognized all to well commented as I tried on the third scarf, a black and yellow stripped. I twirled around quickly and faced a smiley faced Zayn. I couldn't help but smile back. Before I could say anything back, he leaned down and kissed the side of my jaw swiftly.
"So your the famous Zayn I've been hearing about." Meghan announced from behind. She was eying Zayn up and down, as if to detect something. "Khaimon, why did you fail to mention that you were dating Aphrodite's son?"
Zayn laughed at Meghan's comment, and I decided this wouldn't be as bad as I'd let my imagination carry me. They were my friends for goodness sakes, how could i even think that could ruin this.
"I'm really not that good-looking really?" Zayn responded.
"Then you must have a phobia for mirrors right? That's why you haven't seen your own reflection." Meghan was going into cheeky mode. She'd keep insisting until Zayn admitted that he was the son of Aphrodite. Or at least admit he was ten times more good-looking than the average male kind.
"I guess so. Guilty." Zayn said lifting his hands up in surrender. Then Adrienne came over with two full shopping bags with the CC logo on them. Her mouth popped open and the bags almost dropped. It almost got awkward before Zayn held out his hand. "Hi, I'm Zayn."
We all walked to the food court and debated on what to eat. "Since you guys are new here, maybe you'd like to try something more local to London." Zayn had suggested this, thinking that this might be the first time Meghan and Adrienne had traveled.
"You kidding me," Meghan rolled her eyes. "I've eaten a lot of London food in buffets. Not interested." Zayn looked at me and made an expression with his face. This was going to take forever..
"How about some Greek food?" I suggested as a Greek food parlour caught my eyes. There were Greece flags out on the front, and the sitting area had a balcony that over looked the city.
"Not bad." Adrienne and Meghan chorus at the same time. "Jinx." They pinched each other. "Double jinx." They kept this up until Adrienne claimed she said it first. Meghan rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue at her. Very mature.
We walked into the restaurant and sat at one of the four seater tables along the balcony. The view was majestic. We ordered our food and waited patiently for the waiter to return.
"Where are the clubs here?" Adrienne asked. The three of us make a hell of a party team. Come to think about it, I didn't know.
So I turned to Zayn. "You know any clubbing hotspots?" A wicked smile crossed his face. I was immediately suspicious -in a joking kind of way.
"Know em, been to em, seen em, all." I don't know if I was surprised, or was it Meghan. Adrienne kept up her calm facade. But you could see the excitement bubble in her eyes as she took in the good news.
"Can you show us?" Meghan asked, practically jumping in her seat. "Please?"
"Sure thing. Tonight?" Zayn asked. Meghan and Adrienne looked at each other then at me. Tonight it is, I thought.
"We've been practically locked up in her apartment, we deserve a night out." Meghan chipped. "A major hangover is bound to strike." I silently laughed as I remember all the memories of us drinking until we passed out. Epic times.
I was the first person to rise up from the table which surprised myself. My actions also projected something I didn't really wish to imply; that I wanted to go clubbing with Zayn. I immediately tried to cover it up my stretching, I failed miserably. I rolled my eyes and picked up two of my shopping bags. One from Prada and the other from Fendi. Admittedly, I had bought a dress for the formal -without anyone noticing anyways.
"Let's go get ready then." Meghan and Zayn stood the same time. Their tall frames made poor Adrienne look like a mouse. Although Meghan was probably a good four or five inches taller than Zayn. We flagged two cabs and filed in. Zayn and I rode in one, and Adrienne and Meghan in the other.
When we were in the car, and the location to my apartment building was given, Zayn turned over to look at me. "You know, you could have said something so we could go clubbing together." A smile was tugging at the ends of his lips and my eyes narrowed a bit. "I seem to remember you saying something about not liking clubs."
"There's a difference between a club and a strip club." I said slowly trying to fit together the jumble of words in my head. Something about Zayn always ruined my vocabulary. "So no, I don't like strip clubs."
"Sure babe. The one were going to tonight is a hit." He promised. I didn't hear the rest of the sentence after he said the word babe. I was his girlfriend right? But I couldn't help but feel like he wasn't really mine, like I was borrowing him for the time being. The thought bothered me more than it should.
I nodded and stared out the window. I briefly wondered how it would be to drive around these streets in my own car. Suddenly I just couldn't wait until I turned eighteen. "Hey Zayn?"
"Hmm?" He responded already looking at me.
"Do you have a licence?" I didn't know if it was territorial to ask such questions, but I just felt the need to ask.
"Yep." Came his one word reply. "Got it on February. Although I've been driving since I was sixteen."
"That means you were born on January. Right?" He nodded. So he was eighteen also. Just months older than me. "Date, if I may?"
"Twelfth of January." He said writhing the numbers in the air with his index finger. "Celebrated my birthday with four of my mates -who are not here currently- at a place called Nando's."
I nodded and stared out of the window again. Suddenly, the taxi took a sharp turn into my street and I fell over sideways and onto Zayn. I tried to straighten myself up using the back of the driver seat but my hands slipped on the hard leather and I fell again -this time more tragically. Zayn laughed as he picked me up and prompted me upright. For the millionth time in my life, I was grateful that blushing and I weren't compatible.
