(Maddie is 8, Mackenzie and McKenzie are 6)
Melissa parked the car in the parking lot, and Maddie jumped out of the front passenger seat. Melissa opened the trunk and gave Maddie her purple dance bag. "Mackenzie! McKenzie! Why aren't you getting out?"
It was Mackenzie and McKenzie's first day at the Abby Lee Dance Company. Maddie had been going there for two years, since she was six. She was the best dancer in her class, and Abby Lee's favorite. She danced every day. Melissa had pulled her from school and was having her home schooled so she'd have more time to dance. Maddie did her school work in the morning, and then danced for the rest of the day. Maddie always came home talking about dance, sometimes saying she was top of the pyramid (whatever that was, Mackenzie and McKenzie didn't know) and sometimes saying how "Miss Abby yelled at this person" "Miss Abby made this person cry"
"Miss Abby yelled at me" or "Miss Abby threw a chair at this person!"
Mackenzie and McKenzie had heard their mom on the phone to Abby Lee the week before, and knew they'd soon be facing the same thing."Who's Abby Lee again?" Mackenzie had whispered to McKenzie that night, when they were in their bed. "She's that mean lady that takes Maddie's dance class." McKenzie told her.
They had heard the phone start ringing, and Melissa run downstairs to answer it. "Hello? Oh hello Abby. How can I help you...wait, Mackenzie and McKenzie? Be on Dance Moms? In the same class as Maddie? Are they old enough? Okay. Alright. I'll bring them along ready for it tomorrow."Mackenzie and McKenzie had seen their bedroom door start opening, and they quickly shut their eyes so Melissa wouldn't know they'd been listening.
Now, they climbed out of the car and Melissa handed Mackenzie her new pink dance bag, and McKenzie her new blue dance bag. Like Maddie's, both of their bags had had their names put on them in silver letters. They had new dance clothes in more colors than the girls could recognize.
They stared up at the huge white building in front of them, with Abby Lee Dance Company and a dancer on the front above the doors in huge black letters. Maddie pushed the doors open and ran in. Mackenzie and McKenzie knew their sister loved dance. She always said dance was her life. Mackenzie and McKenzie weren't sure if they'd feel the same way. They didn't even know if they'd like dance.
People would probably expect them to, seeing as they were Maddie's sisters. But they weren't Maddie, so they didn't have to like it. They knew their mom wanted them to dance, so even though they were little, they wanted to make her happy so they'd dance even if they didn't like it.Melissa pushed the door open, and Mackenzie and McKenzie followed her in. "Hi, Gianna, how are you?" Melissa asked someone behind a high desk the girls couldn't see over. "Morning Melissa, I'm fine, thanks."
A skinny small girl came out from behind the desk. "Are they Mackenzie and McKenzie? They're so cute!"
She knelt down to hug each twin.
"Which one of you is Mackenzie?" she asked. She had a gentle voice that both the twins immediately trusted and liked. "I'm Mackenzie." said Mackenzie, holding up her pink bag with her name on for Gianna to see. "I'm McKenzie." said McKenzie, holding up her blue dance bag.
"It's nice to meet you, girls, you can both call me Gia if you want to." She stood up, and smiled at them. "Your sister went through that door, so if you just want to go through and join her. Usually you'd be in the class with the little kids, but your mom wanted you to be in the same class as Maddie and her friends."
Mackenzie and McKenzie looked at each other. "Why?" Mackenzie asked.
"You'll see." Gia smiled at Melissa.
"You can't tell us?" McKenzie asked.
But Melissa took hold of their shoulders and steered them through the door.Melissa left her daughters at a door with "Dancers Den" on it. "You open it." McKenzie said.
"No, you open it." Mackenzie said.
McKenzie opened the door. She had to push the handle hard twice to open it.
"Kendall!" She exclaimed. She looked around the room. As well as Maddie, all their new friends from school were in there! Kendall, Chloe, Nia, Brooke, and Paige. Kendall rushed to McKenzie, picked her up and spun her round. Paige picked Mackenzie up.
"Hey girls! Welcome to the ALDC!" Chloe said, stretching on the floor.
