I didn’t think I could have waited any longer for this day to come.
“GINGER GET YOUR LAZY ASS UP WE HAVE TO GO!!!"
Today was finally the day Ginger and I would be on our way to Wayward Beach for the summer to celebrate our graduation from West Newberry High School. We had been planning nonstop for this day; we worked extra hours at Anthropology and had been saving up every penny for 6 whole months to go to the beach by ourselves. We were staying in Ginger’s family’s beach house that was right on the beach without anyone else. I honestly was so excited I couldn’t help the squeal that slipped out of my mouth.
“Reese. If we want to get going, you might want to get dressed first.” Ginger smirked at me, knowing what my reaction would be. I looked down at what I was wearing; a big shirt that was my dads from college and a pair of spandex.
“Uh, yeah. I’ll be right on that.” I jumped up and changed into a pair of cut-off jean shorts and a pink loose tank top. I threw my wavy, dark long hair into a messy bun and applied a thin coat of eyeliner to my crystal blue eyes. My not-for-much-longer pale skin popped against the black liquid eyeliner, making my eyes subtly pop. I grabbed my tan rainbow flip-flops and my two suitcases and ran down the stairs. I found Ginger hauling her bags out to the trunk of my black 2000 Jeep Wrangler. I pulled my bags along and threw them in right next to hers, making sure I had the necessities in my purse – my phone, wallet, and sunglasses.
“I’m too excited to eat breakfast right now. Let’s just stop for Starbucks along the way.” I exclaimed to Ginger. We had already said goodbye to our parents last night; they had already left for work. We jumped in the car and I put the keys into the ignition.
“Ginger Marie Thompson, are you ready for the best summer of our lives?”
“Why, Anna Reese Campbell, I thought you would never ask.”
We hit the road at 9:30 in the morning and arrived at Wayward at about noon. We pulled into the driveway of Ginger’s family’s beach house and exchanged a look. The second we made eye contact we both squealed.
“Oh my gosh, Reese. We are here. FOR THE NEXT THIRTY DAYS!!!” Ginger yelled at me. I smiled and parked the car. We both swung our doors open and grabbed our bags from the back seat. We ran to the door and Ginger fumbled for the house key on her key ring. She finally found it and shoved it into the lock, swinging open the door with a smile on our faces.
“AHHH!!!” We both screamed and jumped up and down, running to the upstairs rooms.
The house’s first floor served as a basement, with a bedroom and bathroom and a wide-open area that had windows that served as walls, with a TV and furniture against the one wall that wasn’t all glass. The stairs winded up the side of the house with a glass railing leading up. The second floor was where the kitchen and den were, with a TV and a few couches. The kitchen was pretty spacious, with an island counter top that had a sink on it. We sprinted up the stairs to find 2 large bedrooms and a conjoined bathroom. The first room, which I claimed as mine, was mint green and had a simple white bed. It also had an egg chair and a small love seat that was white with mint green pillows. There was a TV in front of the bed that was in the wall and had shutters so that it could be closed. It had a full wall window that showed the beach right in front of us.
“GINGER! GET YOUR BATHING SUIT ON WE’RE GOING TO THE BEACH!!” I threw my suitcase on the bed and ripped it open. I had conveniently placed my favorite bathing suit on top with a cover up. The bikini was coral and mint blue, my favorite colors. The cover up was semi-see through and came down to about mid thigh. I ripped my clothes off and threw it on, tying a bow around my neck.
I was so ready for this summer.
