The date went really well. Really, really well. Unfortunately, we couldn't finish the lobster, it was too big and we were utterly stuffed that we could barely move.

Kaoru and I walked hand in hand with our fingers tangled together as we took a stroll down the street.
"Thank you." I smiled. "Tonight was amazing." I gently kissed his cheek, he blushed.

"Any time." He smiled and tightened his grip on my hand. "Say we hail a cab?"
"Sure." I replied and we waited on the side if the road, waiting for a taxi to pass.

I leaned on his side while be placed his arm around my shoulder, giving me a side hug. "I can hear your heartbeat." I smiled.
"Please don't." He sighed.
"But I like to listen." I giggled, concentrating harder on the beat that was gradually accelerating. "It's even better when it's faster."

"Why are you like this?" He laughed as a taxi drove toward us. Kaoru held out his hand to stop it and the car pulled up next to us.

Kaoru climbed in first, then me.
"Date night?" The driver asked, kindly.
"Yep." Kaoru and I replied in sync.
"Good for you. Where you heading?"
"Hitachiin Manor." Kaoru said and the engine hummed to life.

"Your mother is Yuzuha Hitachiin, isn't she?" The driver asked.
"She is." Kaoru said, keenly.
"I knew I recognised you from somewhere. My daughter loves her." He said. "I'm Taku by the way."
"Risa."
"Kaoru." We greeted. "Just a left here." Kaoru instructed and Taku obeyed.

"How long have you been dating?" Taku asked, keeping the conversation going.
"Since yesterday." I smiled, looking at Kaoru.
"That's sweet. I imagine there's a cute little love story too." He chuckled. "I've been married for_"

He was cut off by what only could be the worst possible thing that could happen right then and there. Another car smashed into the side of our taxi and everything went black and frozen.

I groaned as I groggily gained conscious. I was in Kaoru's arms. He must've seen the crash coming because I remember him flinging his arms around me before it all went black.

"Kaoru?" I whispered, nudging his head that was on my shoulder. "Kaoru, wake up." I started to cry. I searched for a pulse. There was none. I pressed my ear onto his chest and listened. It took a few moments but I felt so relieved when I heard the beautiful beat if his heart. He's alive!

I opened the car door and unbuckled my seat belt. I tried doing the same with Kaoru's but to my realisation, my arm was automatically pressed against my side and I could barely move it without it hurting. My left arm was without a doubt, broken.

I had to reach over Kaoru to unbuckle his seat belt. He still wasn't moving but I could feel his breath on my skin.
With my working arm, I tried to pull Kaoru out of the car but be wouldn't budge. I pulled harder and he winced, awakening himself.
"Kaoru!" I yelled happily and hugged him with my good arm.

"What... happened?" He asked, croakily.
"There was a crash." I sighed. "Are you hurt?"
"Yeah, my foot." He said and that's when I noticed that the front passenger seat had rotated from the impact, the corner had squished Kaoru's left foot under it. "Where's Taku?" He asked. I completely forgot about him so I struggled with everything hurting, but managed to look over onto the drivers seat.

Both airbags had blown and Taku wasn't moving but he didn't seem to have any injuries, only minor cuts.
"Is he okay?" He asked. I placed my fingers under Taku's nose to hopefully find him breathing. He wasn't. Tears stung my eyes as I kept begging to him in my head to breath and to be alive. But it didn't work. Taku was dead.

"He's gone." I whimpered.
"What?" Kaoru frowned in worry.
"He's not breathing." I said. Kaoru shook his head and tried to fight his foot out of the seat.
"Ah!" He cried.
"Don't, Kaoru." I ordered. "Don't make it worse."

"Risa, your arm." He said, noticing that it was firmly pressed and immobile.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's broken." I frowned and tried to reach over to Kaoru's foot to untie his shoe laces.
"Risa, leave it." He ordered. "I don't want you hurting yourself." I could tell by his voice he was trying not to cry.

"I can take it if it means you can be free." I said. It was hard to accomplish with one hand and the other exploded with pain, being pressed against the car seat. But I managed it, the laces were now loose. "There." I breathed and sat back, next to Kaoru.

He tried again to retrieve his foot. He yelled out to in pain, holding my hand for comfort but to no avail. "Try again." I pleaded, letting tears cloud my vision. "I know it hurts but please. I need you out of there."

The more it hurt, the louder he cried and it broke my heart to see him in so much pain. The second try, however, got him free and he collapsed on my shoulder in relief.

I couldn't help but kiss him on the lips, caressing his cheek with my working hand. I could tell he was still in pain by how I felt him shake but he smiled into the kiss and could barely bring himself to stop.
"I love you so much." He smiled, out of breath.
"I love you too." I smiled back. "C'mon, we need to find help." I stepped out of the car with my hand in Kaoru's.

He limped out and sat down on the grass while leaning on the side of the car. Being able to walk, I got up and opened the drivers door and used all the strength I could to drag Taku out. I looped my arm over his chest and pulled as hard as I could.

"Risa, let me help." Kaoru said, trying to stand but winced at the pain in his foot and fell back to the ground.
"No, you can't walk, I got this." I assured and I watched Taku's lifeless legs drop out of the car.

With Kaoru's aid, I got him to a sitting position and we placed him, leaning on the car and I took out my cell phone. Thankfully it still worked despite the smash in the screen.

"Hi, ambulance please." I said. "There's been a crash." After I gave them the details, an ambulance siren was heard not too far away. Two of them arrived and Kaoru and I took a ride in one, Taku in the other to the hospital.

"His daughter... His wife." I sighed. "They aren't going to see Taku alive again." I wiped a tear from my eye, thinking of their loss. Kaoru pulled me close with his arm and rested his head on mine. Neither of us knew what to say.
