The next day, Hikaru wasn't able to get a wheelchair but got crutches for Kaoru and the three of us went to their house. Something told me that none of us were going back to school for a while.

"I hate these things." Kaoru moaned at his crutches. "My arms hurt more than my foot now." They were the kind that had a ring around your upper arm that rubbed and scratched you whenever you used them. You could hardly blame him for getting angry.

All I could think about was Taku and his family. You could picture their day, how it started. They just dropped their kids off at school and start to get ready for work. The wife starts making dinner when the kids come home, waiting for Daddy. Just like any other normal day.

Then they get a call in the middle of the night, saying that Daddy had been killed in a car accident. They go to the hospital to find Daddy lifeless and under a white sheet.

Daddy won't be tucking them into bed tonight or saying goodnight to Mommy. All thanks to the man who had too much to drink.

"It's a shame, I know." Kaoru said softly with his arm around me for comfort. He could tell I was depressed for them, he was too. "I was thinking." He began. "He said his daughter was a fan of our mom so I think it would be a good idea to get her an autograph."

"That's a great idea." I nodded. "We'll say she's sorry for them, it'll give her enough to make it through the day."
"I'll get right on it." He smiled and kissed my hair.

The only knowledge I have of Yuzuha is through the media. I've seen her on talk shows and such but I never met her. However, with Kaoru being my boyfriend, it's now possible.

"What's your mom like?" I asked. "Only we've known each other how long? And I've never met her."
"Well... She said she'd be cutting her trip short because of the accident so you'll be able to meet her then." He said, resting his head on mine.

"Can you not act all lovey-dovey in front of me, I feel like a third wheel." Hikaru moaned and chucked a couch cushion and us. He still wasn't over the rejection, poor guy.

"Don't worry, we'll find you someone." I smiled and threw the cushion back at him.
"Where's she coming from?" I asked, switching the topic back to their mother.
"Mexico." Hikaru answered. "She should be on her flight as we speak."

"I see. What about your dad, where's he?"

"Not that far, China." Said Kaoru. "Unfortunately, his boss won't let him come home for business reasons."
"Even though his son was nearly killed?" I asked, a little anger to my tone.
"He was really upset but has boss has no heart, apparently." Kaoru said, a little depressed.

A letter came through the door of the Hitachiin's house early the next morning. The reason I was up that early was because I couldn't sleep, my arm throbbed with pain.

It was an invitation to the funeral, where and when it was held. They must've found the address through medical details or something. I don't understand why they would want us there, we were only passengers, we weren't close to him or his family.

But if they want us there, I think it's best we go; out of respect.
"Morning." Kaoru greeted sleepily, rubbing his eyes. "You couldn't sleep either?"
"No, it kills." I sighed, looking at my cast.
"Aww." He sympathies and gave me a peck on the cheek.
"How did you get down the stairs?" I asked, remembering he had crutches.

"Didn't you know we have an elevator?" He asked, pointing down a corridor with his crutch.
"Really? How did I miss that?" I asked myself under my breath. "This came for us." I held up the invite to him and he started reading it.

"I think we should go. If they want us there, then..." He said, rubbing the back of his neck.
"I thought that too." I nodded. "What time is your mom landing?"
"She said 6 or 7, there might be some delays." He said and joined me on the couch.

"I'm looking forward to meeting her, she seems really nice." I smiled, smuggling into his side.
"She is, unless you get on her bad side. You don't want to see that." He laughed and started playing with my hair.

"Is Hikaru still shaken up about the crash?" I asked, keeping the conversation going. I hate awkward silences.
"He never let go of me all night. I can't blame him, I'd be exactly the same if it was him."
"Daww." I giggled.

"Kaoru?!" A woman's voice called from the outside of the front door along with her probably attempting to beat the door down.

"Keep your frills on, I'm coming!" Kaoru called back, scuttling as fast as he could on his crutches to the door.
"Give me a hand?" He smiled to me when he got there. I smiled and opened the door for him to let in a woman who made a beeline for Kaoru the moment she saw him.

"Are you okay? Where are you hurt? What happened? What were you thinking?" She asked a million miles an hour.
"Hello Mom, nice to see you too." Kaoru laughed sarcastically. "I'm fine, honest."

It was really sweet how much love she showed him. Honestly, I'm really jealous my mother wasn't the same. "Mom, this is Risa, my girlfriend. She was in the car with me." He introduced, gesturing to me.
"Hi, it's good to finally meet you." I smiled.

She looked back and forth between us for a moment before the realisation clicked.
"So you're...?" She began.
"Yep." We replied together. Seriously, he didn't tell her? Well, being famous and all, they might not have good contact, so I'll let him off.

"Mom!" Hikaru called from the top of the stairs.
"Hikaru." She smiled with open arms, welcoming him into a hug. "It's good to see you. Please tell me you're okay."
"I'm fine." He assued while smiling.

They broke the hug and Yuzuha turned to me.
"Right, you and me need to talk." She chuckled lightly then walked into the living room. "Kaoru, you're coming too."

Kaoru did as we were told and sat down on the couch opposite Yuzuha.
"So tell me, how long have you known each other?" She asked as she poured herself a cup of Japanese tea, the tray with the cup and teapot was being held by a servant.
"About a year-ish?" I answered.
"And you didn't think to tell me?" She asked Kaoru and he gave a nervous smile.

"Yeah, service wouldn't go through." He said. I believed him but looking at his mother's face, she didn't. She brushed it off, however, by the looks of it.

"And where are your parents, Risa?" She asked and Kaoru looked at me worryingly.
"I don't know. Somewhere international." I said and she gave a shocked expression.
"They just left you here, alone?"
"...Not exactly." I confessed

"What do you mean?"
"With all do respect, Mrs Hitachiin, I'm a little uncomfortable talking about it." I said, bowing my head in embarrassment.
"Oh, okay. My apologies." She nodded.
She proceeded to ask us numerous questions about our relationship, just to catch up with what was going on in her son's life. Her and I also had a pretty cool, deep conversation about her fashion line.

I'm pretty sure Kaoru zoned out during that, it's not his area of interest. "Well, Risa, it's been very nice to finally meet you." She smiled. "Feel free to do whatever you want."
She seemed a nice enough woman, I think we'll get along very well.

"Mom?" Kaoru pitched in.
"Hmm?"
"Can we have your autograph?" He asked.
"Um... Sure. Can I ask why?" She replied, slightly laughing in her tone.

"The driver of the cab was unfortunately, killed in the crash." Kaoru answered and Yuzuha's face fell to sadness. "His daughter is a fan of you and we thought that your autograph would give her something to smile about."

Yuzuha nodded sadly and took out a blank note book and pen from a nearby draw. She scribbled her signature on it and tore out the page then handed it to us.
"How... How will you get it to her?" She asked.

"We've been invited to his funeral." I said.
"Oh?"
"We thought we should go out of respect." I continued and she nodded in agreement.
"You should go."
