Blindfolds were still on me. Someone was putting their hands on my shoulders. Unwelcome hands. But then, as I felt my feet touch the floor, the hands let go. A new pair of hands wrapped my waist. Familiar ones.
Dale.
I was happy to find some sense of knowledge while being blindfolded. Other than knowing I touched the floor.
However, I didn't know what to feel. Feel comfort, knowing the only man I knew for most of my life was still here with me...or feel betrayed and disgusted because he would abandon me soon. All of these feelings in my head. It felt so odd.
I was guided to walk forward, and make a few turns. I knew I was inside of somewhere. But where? "I'm still wondering why you got here so late."
Who is that speaking?
"The police had her. I managed to get her, anyways. Without a trace." Dale said.
"Good. Let's start the negotiations, gentlemen!" He must be the leader.
Oh my goodness.
I heard so many hollers and claps. What is going on? Who else is here? How many others are here?
"Goodbye, Sugarplum. Stay strong." Dale let go. I was suddenly frightened. In blindfolds and no clue what to do.
"Dale? Dale?!" I yelled so loud.
Where am I going to go now?! He left me! Why?! I'm so scared!
"Someone make her shut the fuck up!"
"Sarah. Stop it." I calmed down and stayed silent at the sound of Dale's voice."This is girl number one. Let's start at...150?"
I heard a girl crying. Then a whole bunch of hollers. There are more girls. Oh God.
"Alright. 158. Cmon boys, the owner says she's really good. Ain't that right, Steven? Haha!"
More hollers came out. More numbers being called. "170!" I heard some man say.
The leader spoke again. "Let's be fair, gentlemen, cmon! She's got some soft blonde hair and...oh but those curves!"
I heard a girl let out a cry again. "170 going once,...going twice-"
"175! Right here!"
"Alright, alright! That's the spirit! 175 going once,...going twice... Sold!" I heard the other girl again.
"No! Please! No! Leave me alone! I want to go home! Mom! Dad! Help me!" I could barely understand her. She was crying so much. I just knew. I could hear it.
My chest felt tight. I couldn't breathe very well. My throat was so dry. I wanted to stretch so bad. But I didn't. I don't know who's watching me.
Three more girls went before me until I felt an arm around my shoulder. I got pulled in closer. "We got a really pretty one right here, boys!"
That's when I start to cry. I'm giving up. My life is over! I'm done. I'm done fighting! I might as well not know who I am. I've always been lost. Feeling like I don't know enough about the world.
But just as I'm about to give up...
"Sugarplum! I'm here. Hold on. Stop the negotiation! I want to keep her. Call off the deal."
There was silence. There was a heavy tension in the air. What is going on?
Then the leader spoke again. "You're a fucking joke if you think I'll call the deal off. You know the rules. Men. Finish him off."
My breathing got heavy. What did that mean?
"What? No! No! Let go of me!" Dale yelled. "Sugarplum I'm sorr-!"
My ears started ringing. I yelled in fright. What was that?! Please don't tell me that was a gun. Please...
"Dale. Dale?" No response. I felt lightheaded.
There was suddenly a huge crash that sounded in the distance. "FBI! Don't move!"
FB- what?
