After you broke up after 1 year and a few months of dating, he had to pour his emotions out somehow. Then he found a solution; music.
Everytime he falls asleep or shuts his eyes, he remembers you and everything is somehow okay, again. Like nothing happened. Then he feels like you called him, about to scold him for falling asleep on the couch or being lazy. But when he opens his eyes, you're gone.
He wrote Once In A Lifetime fully inspired by you. Every time he tried to sing it to the boys so that this could be a single or in the new album, he'd break down and cry. So instead, he gave the song to the One Direction boys. They changed the song a bit, but they sang it nonetheless.
Ashton: If I'm James Dean, You're Audrey Hepburn ~ Sleeping With Sirens
He wrote this song about you. He always wrote songs when he was either sad or happy. In this case, he was sad. Very.
He couldn't sing this song in front of the boys, so he wrote it to All Time Low, Sleeping With Sirens, and many other close bands. Sleeping With Sirens grabbed it first.
Luke: Someone Like You ~ Adele
Once, he broke up with you over such a powerful fault, he couldn't even deny it. He went to the local cafe that you two used to go on dates at, just to reminisce. Suddenly, he spotted you with another boy, getting cosy with each other. He immediately turned around and ran back home, writing a song to express his feelings. Afraid his voice would crack when singing the long notes, he decided to give it to the queen of vibratos herself, Adele.
Michael: Wrapped Around Your Finger ~ 5 Seconds Of Summer
As the boys would say, 'Uh, Michael, you're so whipped'. He never wanted to admit it, but after realizing, he wanted to tell you, but not directly to your face. He didn't know what your reaction would be like. Would you be happy? Sad? Satisfied? Angry? Disappointed? He didn't know. Instead, he wrote it into a song he begged the boys to let him sing so he's telling you himself. Although Luke had his own part in it, too, he claimed that part didn't matter.
