A/n: the pic is to lighten the mood + sorry pt. 2
"Dems? You okay?" Selena asked as they headed out of the school, Selena's mom was to pick the two up.
"Fine." Demi answered. Selena would be lying if she said the evasiveness wasn't bothering her. Demi has been like this in both the classes they share together, all she wants is a little insight into her head. For the while that she's known the blonde she's never seen her this way, usually she's so open when she's with the brunette.
"Okay." Selena answered. She realizes time is the only thing she can give to make this better. "Just talk to me if you need me." Demi's phone went off right after that. Selena noticed the look of panic on written on her face but it was soon replaced with indifference.
"Hello?" Demi answered.
"Demetria." Tom slurred. "I need you.. Home. I need you." the blonde was perplexed, usually when her uncle called he wasn't so calm. Even in his state of intoxication he was pretty sane. More than he has ever been with her. Something must be really wrong. "Demi."
"I'm coming." was all she could say. She hung up after that.
What could be wrong? What if he's sick? I need to be there. Thoughts ran wild in her head.
"Need to be where?" she wasn't aware she had spoken aloud until Selena asked her that.
"Home."
"Demi, what about your uncle?" Selena worried after the girl.
"That's exactly why I need to be there, he needs me Selena."
Selena. She never uses my full name. The brunette couldn't help but feel a little hurt over this. Her tone of voice didn't help matters. I need to suck it up, she's obviously distressed.
"Well, do you need—?"
"Why do you have to be so nice?!" Demi threw her hands up. "All of this would be so much easier if you were a bitch to me, or if you didn't care."
"Whaa? Where is this coming from?" by now people have stopped to watch.
"Selena, you know what I'm talking about." the brunette shook her head. She can't hear it, this felt like a break up, only what's worse is that she didn't have her to begin with. "You and I can't happen. Whatever we have, needs to stop now. I'm sorry.""Why are you doing this?"
"Because I care, I care about what they think." she said, she was so close to tears in that moment, but this had to be done. Demi felt that if she didn't stop it now, it would only hurt more. "So far, I've only been getting negatives. I can't. I gotta go."
"Don't do this!" she heard the other girl yell after her. "The other people don't matter." Selena said weakly. She doubts the other girl heard her. She hardly heard herself over the sound of her heart ripping in two, the other half leaving with Demi.

"Uncle Tom? I'm home." Demi spoke into the house as she shut the door. She would've shouted like she does at Selena's house but even whispering sounds foreign in this place.
"Demi. Get in here." the blonde flinched. He didn't sound like he did on the phone. She obeyed and followed his voice into the kitchen, keeping her eyes on her feet. "Look at me." she looked up. He looked angry, and almost hurt.
"I'm sorry." she apologized, though she didn't know what for. She was capable of making her own decisions now, she is an adult in less than a week.
