A/N: I'm changing the stories perception a little bit. That is all.

Selena could feel her mom's eyes burning holes into her at every stop they made, she was beyond livid with Selena and her current ditching situation. Selena, at the time, hadn't thought her mom would take it this badly. Heck, it was the first time she'd ditched. Ever. She should be happy that Selena didn't do anything to get herself in even more trouble than she was in.

Selena looked into the rear view mirror at Demi in the back. Her forehead was pressed against the glass as she watched the city go by. Demi was feeling a little apprehensive about Selena's mom dropping her off. She was thanked the Lord up above for the awkward silence that settled in the silver Chrysler 200. The silence filled the car, leaving no room for conversation.

Selena and Demi caught one anothers eye in the mirror, holding the gaze until they were interrupted.

"Is this it?" Mandy, Selena's mom, asked.

"Yes, thank you very much ma'am. I'm sorry about what happened at school." Demi apologized.

"It's fine. I was expecting something like this from her." Mandy looked at said 'her'.

"Mom." Selena whined. "I did not plan this. It just happened. I'm sorry, okay?" Demi looked between the both of them. Selena matched Mandy's angry stare.

"I'm just gunna go in now..." Demi slid out of the car, grabbing her bag and slinging it over her shoulder. Demi turned around and waved saying "Thanks so much for the ride, see you tomorrow Selena." while Mandy muttered a "Goodbye." before pulling off.

Demi stood at the end of the sidewalk leading up to her house. Where her nightmares lived. She walked up to her house and let herself in, her pit bull, Howie, greeting her at the door. The air in the room was still, giving out some eerie vibes. Demi listened for any signs of life in the house other than her dogs.

When she heard nothing she bent down and brought the brown pit bull's face into her hands.

"You're such a good doggie. Yes you are, yes you are." she gushed. "Good doggies deserve treats. Yes they do Howie Powie."

She nearly pranced all the way to the counter to get her dog his treat.

"There you go baby. Such a good doggie!" she patted him on the head and kissed his nose before heading upstairs to change. Knowing she had to clean after her uncle and his drunken happenings.

Once into a pair of old ripped jeans and an 1975 T-shirt she got to work picking up empty cans and bottles, stepping over unknown, moldy substances.

Once she was done, Demi walked out the door and walked the couple of blocks to her local church for the youth group Teen AA.

"That was rude." Selena told her mom, evidently still irritated. "She was trying to say thank you, the least you could have done was acknowledge her."

"I don't think I'll be acknowledging anyone at the moment, I'm not done with you yet. Is this really how you're going to act here Selena? I will not tolerate this behavior." They sat it the car, Mandy looking at Selena, Selena looking anywhere but at her. "You're grounded. You hear? When your car comes in tomorrow no driving. For a month. Am I understood?"

Selena nodded her head, refusing to give her a verbal understanding.

"Use your words Selena." Mandy scolded.

"Yes, mom, you're understood. Can we go inside now?" When Mandy said nothing Selena got out. Relieved, for the first time upon arriving, to be at her new house.
