Chapter 1 - What's Up With the Weird People?
-
An angry phone vibrated violently on the nightstand, growing louder and louder as I ignored the chime of a bell. Slowly, I reached out my hand, tapping various places on the screen until finally discovering the snooze button. Cold air enveloped around me as I rose up from my bed in a paceful manner. The eerily dark room seemed to stare back at me. As I heard a soft lap lap slurp lap on one side of the room, I turned my head to find my pudgy cat not on my bed, but sitting beside the window licking itself intensely. The cat paused to squint at me, and as if I did not exist, continued its morning grooming.
I softly whined as I dragged myself out of my bed, and lazily unplugged my phone from its serene spot on the nightstand. Throwing on a skirt and a shirt with the words Très Bien on it, I was satisfied with throwing my hair in a ponytail and brushing my teeth. I'd grab food in the cafeteria that morning.
Hastily putting on some converse, and clutching my backpack, I quickly ran out of the house before my family could even attempt to take first day of school photos. I'd be late by the time they took even one measly picture.
As I walked through a grouping of pine trees into the open street where the bus would stop, I was greeted with a loud, "Morning sis!" which rang throughout the neighborhood.
"Good morning Blake," I responded. "Morning Finn."
"Hey Sage. Hyped for the first day?" Finn asked me.
"To be quite honest, no. But at least we're in the same Biology X class. I'd die on my own," Finn chuckled at the statement.
"Well for me, I am quite excited to begin high school," Blake squeezed in between Finn and myself, putting all the attention on himself.
"We get it, you're a noob. You'll get tired of high school within a couple of weeks and you'll give up on all of your hopes of getting a good GPA," I retorted. "I barely got my 4.0 GPA. Barely. And every living moment of that school year was hell."
"Great job Sage, now you've terrified the poor Freshman," Finn muttered to me, causing me to chuckle a bit as Blake rolled his eyes.
"Am I supposed to be naive? I've heard you guys talk about school last year in Skype calls. I'm not completely oblivious," Blake muttered in a considerably annoyed tone of voice. As Finn began to crack up slightly at the Freshman, the bus began to pull up in front of us.
With me leading the way, the three of us filed onto the bus, where I sat with Blake in the 6th row, and Finn sat in the 5th row in front of Blake. As Finn was just sitting down, the bus driver began to drive again, causing Finn to slam down into the seat. This made Blake howl with laughter, and made me chuckle a bit.
"Smooth Finn, real smooth," Blake managed to say through his laughter.
