The rest of the walk there was uneventful.
Or as uneventful as being led to your very probable death can be I guess.
Sam leads us through the brightly lit lobby and up a few flights of stairs until we come to a room with a view overlooking the entire city.
Once I tear my eyes away from the windows I notice that the council that runs the city is here.
The soldiers bring us around to a couple of chairs and sit in between Adaline and I.
We wait in silence for a few minutes until the president comes out and sits in a giant chair. She glares at us through her squinted eyes, so brown they almost look red. Her black hair worn in a tight bun on the top of her head frames her pointed features so they make her look as if she were a bird. She folds her hands on the table in front of her and nods at a member of the storm to begin the trial.
"Case number 3748, Jeremy Smith charged with kidnapping, murder, theft, arson, and drug possession."
I burst out laughing, probably the worst thing to do but these charges are just too funny. What drug am I in possession of exactly? I don't need them, I can get high with just a thought towards my adrenaline levels.
The president leans forward and begins tapping her fingers on the table. "And what pray tell, do you find so funny?"
Tap, tap, tap.
I just shake my head as Adaline widens her eyes at me. "Nothing."
Tap, tap, tap.
There was a sudden whooshing sound and a crash as a hovercar burst through the glass.
