Chapter 4

By the time we got to the last spell of the day. You would never have known that I had only met these girls at lunch. "So what class do you have next?" asked the pretty blonde one called Sacha. I glanced down at my timetable stuck to my binder before replying. "Art,"

"awww that's too bad, we all took spanish beacuse you hardly have to do any work and can pretty much get away with anything!" said Taylor joining in on the conversation.

"Well i better go then," i replied before turning to head off to my next class. "see ya,"

"Oh wait Sydney," called Ashleigh the main popular one like you might see in one of those american movies. I turned on my heel to face my new so called 'friends' and smiled. "Sacha and I are heading over to the mall after school becuse Sacha's parents are finally letting her get her belly button pierced. I mean stubborn right? rambled on Ashleigh. Flicking her hair as if on cue as some year eleven boys walked by. That earned her a few wolf whistles from the guys. I must have started day dreaming because all three of the girls were staring at me with questioning faces. "Were you even listening?"

"Uhh yea," I replied looking a bit dazed.

"So are you coming?" asked Sacha. I hesitated but decided to go with it. Besides no one else had bothered to try and make friends with me. Well daniel doesn't count right now. Well not anymore.

"Yea, sure sounds good," i replied suprising myself at how confident i sounded. The only time i volenteer myself for going to a mall is when i'm really desperate. Well i guess i am, desperate for friends....

"Ok meet me and sacha at the school gates after school," Ashleigh informed me.

"Kk see ya then,"

"See ya then chorused together as they walked away in the opposite direction. I straightened out my skirt and rounded the corner to the art blocks. I stumbled through the door just as the second bell rang. The teacher gave me a disaprroving look and I mumbled an apology as my eyes scanned the room for a seat. "Great," I sarcastically mumbled to myself. Now I get to spend the next hour with Mr know it all Daniel. "Tut tut, being late to class is not acceptable miss brown," Daniel said smiling at his dry sense of humor. I gave him a glare and rolled my eyes before taking the only avaliable seat next to him. "C'mon lighten up," Daniel joked before letting out a sigh. "Look, I know you're still angry at me," Daniel whispered being serious now as the teacher glared our way. I got out my art sketch book and tried to block out Daniel's one way conversation. "I know you're ignoring me. You've been avoiding me all day. I've already apologized, what more do you want?" I could feel my anger bubbling up inside of me as Daniel denied that it was even partly his fault.

"Silence," my art teacher hissed. But by that time Daniel had pushed me well over the edge. "That's it," I said raising my voice a little too high. I thrust my book into my bag and stood up from my chair. Leaving Daniel with a dumbfounded expression on his face.

"Excuse me, where do you think you're going?" I ignored my teachers question and broke out into a run as soon as i was out of the classroom.

"Sydney wait," called a voice behind me. But i didn't stop. Not for him. Not ever.

I knew i was going to be in deep trouble after this little episode but right now i just needed to be alone. I burst out of the doors of the stuffy hallway into the cool afternoon air. I slumped down on a nearby bench and stared out into the distance. Not looking anywhere in particular. Just thinking. I've changed so much since moving here. Back at my old school I wouldn't have even cared what someone like Daniel thought of me. So why did i care? My trace of thought was broken when a sandy haired boy burst out of the corridor looking lost and confused. we held eye contact for a second before we both looked away embarrassed and taken aback from everything that had just happened a few minutes ago. Daniel shuffled uncomfortably and kicked at invisible pepples on the ground. "Look, I'm sorry, and I really mean it," he said as he sat down beside me. I took a in a big shaky breath and looked Daniel in the eyes.

"You may think you know me, and what i'm like but you don't so don't act like you do," I said sharply before picking up my bag and turning to walk away. Just as I was about to rush away Daniel grabbed my wrist and I turned to face him once more. Just as I was about to tell him to let go he started talking. "I may not know you now, but i can get to know you," he said with hopeful eyes. I considered this for a moment before pushing the thought out of my mind.

"Think again," I whispered as i turned on my heel and walked away, head high and pride in every step. Well that's what I hoped i looked like when in reality I felt like running away and never coming back again...
