Twisted Fate [Poem]

I'm dedicating this poem to AthenasAngel because her story 'I saved his life without think I would fall for him. But I did.' was my inspiration to write this poem. :)

Twisted Fate

The one time I was ready to die

Was the first time I saw you cry

You told me 'please stay with me'

Something I could no longer guarantee.

I stood there blocking everyone out

Ignoring everything, even your shouts

Wondering what would be of you

While I watched the sky turn a midnight blue

I saw movement out of the corner of my eye

You drew out a long sigh

And said 'If you jump I jump'

While trying to swallow the lump

That was building up in your throat.

I was calm thinking it was remote

The chance that you'd really jump.

I looked up at the sky

Feeling the cool breeze of that ninth of July

After a long breath and a swift move of my feet

I felt the adrenaline rus through my veins

As if I were an athlete

The thing was I wasn't bungy jumping

I was a normal person that was fed up from suffering

Hoping gravity would do its grace

Helping me to finally leave this place.

In the background I heard a scream

And as crazy as it might sound

It made me wonder if this was just a dream.

I don't remember much after that

But when I woke up I looked at where you sat

But you weren't the same, you didn't look real

As soon as I realized the truth I let out a high pitched squeal

Not one of happiness nor out of joy

But out of fear the future of whom I had destroyed.

That was years ago

My life is so slow

But there's not a day that goes by

In which I don't  wonder why

In this twisted fate of mine

It was you the one who had to die

Why you and not me?

I'm still trying to make up for that

Living the life you didn't get the chance to have

Because even though it was you who decided to jump

It is still my fault you are not alive.

I'm sorry.
