Chapter Four: Settling in

(A/N: Sorry, updates a lil slow - working on requests.
Also, I know I said I'd get the story going more in this chapter, but after noticing I had already wrote over 2k words of intro, I decided instead of making one annoyingly long chapter I'd upload this part individually. Sorry if this kinda seems like filler.)

Turns out by 'people you should meet' your new pink haired friend had been referring to the three humans you had encountered only a few hours prior. Apparently she had invited them here to help train you - you of course doubted they could teach you much but kept that to yourself.

"Guys this is (y/n)." The supreme kai of time said gesturing to you with a smile. "(y/n), I believe you already know Krillin, Tien and Yamcha."

"Uh, hi... again." You say with a lazy wave.

"Woah, you weren't kidding." Says Yamcha looking you over with a somewhat surprised expression, indolently rubbing his neck.

"Goddesses don't kid." The kai responds, placing her hands on her hips. You were skeptical of this statement.

"Hi, I'm Krillin..." Says the short human with a nervous grin. "But, uh, I guess you knew that already."

"So you're here to train huh?" Yamcha asks, his startled look switching to a slightly more smug smile. "Well you came to the right people-"

"What my friend means is the supreme kai of time has told us what's going on and, if you're up to it, there are a few things we could teach you." Tien interrupts with a nod in your direction.

"Sure, I'm always up for leaning new skills." You respond with a shrug before your eyes light up in sudden recollection. "Oh- like that cool slicey ki attack you used on Vegeta! That looked like fun!" Your childlike glee at the idea of cutting people in half was only matched by the accompanying hand gestures.

"I have cool moves too..." Yamcha muttered in a scarcely audible voice, crossing his arms.

"Uh..." Krillin scratches his head, seemingly a little disquieted by your very specific enthusiasm.

"Well it looks like things are going great here - I need to return to the time nest." Says the kai, quickly turning and walking away. "Thanks again guys!" She had vanished before you could so much as say goodbye - leaving you staring at the path behind you, feeling slightly perplexed.

"Well, we'll see how it goes." Continues the short human assuming a more serious countenance. "It's not a toy ya know."

You spin back around to face the three, eyes narrowed as you resist the urge to point out you are not a child.

"Right, I suppose we should start by seeing what you can do." Says Tien readying himself for battle.

"Here?" You question, casting your gaze around the small, beautifully decorated park in the centre of which a tall marble fountain sat, surrounded by rows of earth brimming with carefully arranged, exotic plants. "Well, ok but if something gets broken it's not my fault."

"Don't worry so much." Shrugs Yamcha, joining his friend.

"Eh, you're right..." You agree before grinning and assuming a somewhat casual combat pose, expecting the following fight to be a breeze...

~~~
Turns out you were wrong, the humans had gotten a lot stronger in the time since their battle with the saiyans - which had apparently been years for them.
You pant, knees resting upon the soft - if now slightly ripped up - grass.
Your opponents, while clearly faring better then you, hadn't exactly remained unscathed either - still your current inability to handle the humans was vexatious, that it was three on one was your only consolation... well, that and the fact you hadn't been fighting at full power, you still had one transformation up your metaphorical sleeve - something which you had been saving for when you really required it.
You were close to using it in the fight with the giant monkey, but what had started out as a lack of opportunity soon turned into a lack of need.
