Chapter Six: Distractions
Clouds drifted overhead, urged along by cool breeze that washed in from the rocky shore far off behind you, sheltering you from much of the dying sunlight - it's golden rays occasionally piercing through an opening in the wispy white mass and glancing off the shiny purple plating of your mysterious new company.
"T-thanks for helping me..." You say, ignoring the persistent voice emitting from your scouter.
"You're fortunate..." He begins, dark lips forming a smirk. "I had questions - don't expect it to happen again."
"What kinda questions..?"
Frieza hovered closer until he was less then ten inches from your position, his arms crossed over his armoured chest and his dark red eyes meeting your (e/c) ones - there was something threatening in his general countenance despite the almost casual way in which he addressed you. You perhaps found yourself a little enthralled but a quick shake of your head restored most of your senses.
His smile drops, replaced by a more businesslike expression. "Let's start with who you are - I don't recognise you..." He begins as his gaze trails down from your face, drifting over the rest of your form.
"Uh... why would you?" You question, feeling almost self-conscious beneath the scrutiny of his observations.
"There are not so many of my kind that they just show up by coincidence - on this planet of all places. Now who are you and why are you here?" His tone was nothing short of demanding as he pressed for answers, your body tensed in response and you step back once to put a little distance between the both of you.
"Oh, names (y/n)..." You stare off to the side, trying to appear nonchalant. "I'm just passing through... ya know, on my way-" Your words are quickly cut off by Frieza grabbing your jaw, forcing you to look up at him.
"Killing you would be a waste... but my patience is growing thin. Now..." His grip tightens against your (s/c) flesh. "What are you doing here, and who were they?" At his mentioning of the two time travellers his eyes flicker over to the spot they had stood.
"Don't tell him the truth." Insists Trunks - as though he actually expected you to do so - before groaning in frustration. "I can't believe it's come to this... but you need to keep him distracted, just a little while - the others need more time to prepare and summon the dragon. Do not start a fight - this guy's much too powerful for you to defeat alone!"
You wanted to tell the lavender haired demi saiyan how unhelpful he was being just now, unfortunately that would have to wait until later. "I... well..." You search for a good explanation - something believable that wouldn't provoke a fight. "Those people - I was following them, they're criminals." The best lies after all were rooted in truth. "I don't know why they're here - I mean it's not like there's anything worthwhile on this backwater planet eh?"
He stares down at you silently for a moment and you're sure he sees through your story. "Very well... I'll let you live." His fingers release your jaw, brushing against your skin briefly in the process as a half-smirk returns to his lips. "You might be useful to me. For now..." He turns away preparing to leave. "Stay out of my way."
"Wait!" You yell before he can depart, one arm reaching for his shoulder before pausing and withdrawing to your side.
Frieza looks back to regard you, a questioning and unamused expression upon his features, you were clearly keeping him from important business - of course that was the point.
"I-I... uh." You attempt to manufacture a good excuse to make him stay - unfortunately drawing a blank.
"Well? Out with it!"
You recoil a little at his tone before blurting out the first thing that came to mind, with a nervous grin. "Wanna go uh- get a drink? Lunch maybe?"
"What do you think your doing?! Oh Kami." Says Trunks - probably face-palming again. "I said distract him not proposition him-" You flush slightly - you certainly hadn't intended it that way. Improv was not one of your talents and he wasn't exactly helping.
Frieza's expression switches from annoyed to something more quizzical before he finally starts laughing at your apprehensive request, to which you can only cross your arms and look away, brow furrowed in response. Once his laughter had ceased he turned back to you in full and again drew closer. "Do you even know who I am (girl/boy)?" He questions, now standing so near your skin almost touches.
You blush and grit your teeth, backing up - or trying to, his tail coils around your left wrist, preventing escape. You make a brief attempt to pull your arm free but his grip merely tightens in response. "No- not really. Just kinda heard your name..." You reply with a weak laugh before recalling your mission. "But, uh- I'd like to know more..."
"Oh, I'm sure you would... but unfortunately I don't have time to humour you." He leans in closer, arms still folded and a malicious smile upon his lips at your effort to escape. "I'll only warn you one last time - stay out of this." With that he releases you - none too gently - and flys off towards the others.
"Well... I tried it your way Trunks..."
"Grr... you're right - it's our only option..." The saiyan agrees with obvious reluctance. "Be careful - just try and hold out until-"
"Yeah, yeah." You take off after him as fast as you can, ignoring the saiyan's cautions. "Hey!" You yell, tossing a (k/c) ki blast at the older icejin - which he effortlessly bats aside, stopping and glaring back at you with a growl of irritation.
"You fool - how dare you?! What do you think you're doing?!"
"My job - sorry." You answer, preparing for ensuing battle against your better judgement.
"Very well..." He responds - too calmly for your liking. "If you wish to die so badly!" Wasting no more time on words your opponent charges - you narrowly dodge a punch to the stomach but aren't fast enough to evade the follow up and soon find yourself unwillingly flying backwards through the air.
"Y-you're pretty fast." You say after recovering before you could collide with a tall mountain and wrapping an arm around your aching stomach. "But I'm still faster!" You insist despite current evidence pointing to the contrary.
"Oh? Don't hold back on my account." He responds, sounding unconvinced to say the least.
You tightly clench your fists as the two of you remain unmoving in the sky above miles of stretching blue fields and mountainous landscapes. Your opponent was clearly waiting for you to make the first move this time - and you would oblige.
With a grin you form a (k/c) sphere between your palms...
(A/N: Gonna try to upload more frequent shorter - 1 to 2k word - chapters as opposed to less frequent longer chapters from now on ~ unless ppl prefer it that way.
Also kinda early to mention it but I intend to add events from movies that weren't included in the game - at the very least Cooler's movie, it's one of my faves. Might not add em in the correct order but hey - time travel!)
