I stared at Beca, mortified by what she had said.

"W- What do you mean, you don't remember who I am?" I asked.

"I'm sorry.. I just.. don't." She said back. Before she could say anything else, I ran out of the room. So much was going through my head. Beca's doctor came out to see me.

"Ms. Beale, you must underst-" I cut him off again. You could say I was pissed..

"What does she mean she doesn't remember me?" I asked, shouting.

"Ms. Beale, please calm down. Pl-"

"Calm down? I will not calm down! My girlfriend doesn't know who the hell I am!" My outburst caught the attention of everyone on the 3rd floor. I took a deep breath and motioned my hand, signaling to the doctor to explain.

"Ms. Beale, Beca has a large wound on her head." No shit, doctor. "Right now, she can't remember anything. But we believe she'll gain her memory back. Before you came, she woke up from a dream, and she said your name. We assume that that's her brain trying to piece itself back together. The rest of her body will heal with time.. but her memory, we'll have to be extra patient with that."

There was a long pause between the doctor and I. It took me a minute to process. Beca couldn't remember me? She couldn't remember anything..

"Okay.. do you think it's okay for me to talk to her?" I asked, a little confused about how the whole amnesia situation works.

"Oh, yes, that might help her get some of her memories back. Or at least help her to you know... transition to her new life, if, you know.."

My stomach dropped... Her new life? What if she couldn't regain her memory? Then what? It's not like we could just start over?..

I slowly walked back into Beca's room and sat next to her bed. She watched every move I made, like she had never seen another human being before. Neither of us said anything. There were a few long sighs and a couple throat clears, but no real words.

"Chloe?" Beca said my name, finally breaking the silence. I looked up towards her, she looked like a lost puppy.

"Yes, Beca?.. Wait, how do you remember my name?"

"I just remember the doctor saying it before.. and I... well, I don't know, but.. can I ask you something?"

"Yeah, ask me anything, Beca."

"Okay, why are you my only contact? Do I not talk to my parents anymore?"

"Oh.. uh, well, when you moved down here, you decided that since both of your parents lived so far away and that since plane tickets cost so much, you'd just put me down as your emergency contact. But that's before you got an assistant and stuff. You should probably list him down on your papers now too."

"Wait, I have an assistant?" Beca asked, excited.

"Ha, yeah, his name's Nick."

"Well, that's cool... Well, now I have to ask.. Why you? What makes you so important? Are you my boss or room mate or something?"

I didn't know how much longer I could go on like this. Beca not knowing who I was was trouble enough. Now she thinks I'm her boss?

"Uhm.. no, not quite.. Beca, I'm your girlfriend."

Beca stared at me, her face going from shocked to confused, "My..? I'm lesbian?"

Holy shit. The car hit her so hard she went back to being straight.
