"That was the weirdest dream ever." I said to no one but myself, but to my surprise I got a response.
"Yeah that wasn't a dream" Said a girly voice. I screamed, well at least I tried within the split second I thought of opening my mouth the person had clamped their hand over my mouth. I looked at the intruder and almost fainted. It can't be possible it was Aaliyah, but she disappeared a year ago.
I thought back back to the last day I saw Aaliyah.
"Hey, you want to do that history project together. " I ask Aaliyah. "I can't, I'm going over to Steven's." She said hurriedly. Ah yes, Steven, her boyfriend. I very much dislike him. He is never at school and he always is overprotective of Aaliyah. "Okay whatever" I made sure she heard my annoyance. "I'm sorry but we're supposed to be leaving soon and he really wants me to get things in order." She said then hugged me goodbye.
That was the last time I talked to her that was until just now. "You will not scream." She says looking deep into my eyes. Suddenly I don't have the urge to scream anymore.
"Okay now let me explain what happened." Said another girl from the corner. She walked over and held out her hand. I took it. But I immediately let go, her hand felt like it was frozen. The cold from her hand radiated all the way up my arm.
"I'm Alex and last night Aaliyah bit you, she is a vampire. We can't go into detail about everything here and now though." I went and sat in my bed because my knees were weak. It was all too much to take in.
"Anyways, she bit you because she was instructed to. Two people disappeared from your life and you thought it was just because the world hated you. Well it is not, someone has been trying to protect you, not from those people but from the ancestors." She looks over at Aaliyah for her to continue.
"The ancestors are the oldest vampires in our circle. They've been trying to kill you, but every time they get one of your friends instead. That's why I left without telling you I got turned protecting you." She looked at me with sorrow filled eyes.
I finally found my voice "Okay, let me get this straight you left and got turned protecting me from the ancestors. Luke broke up with me yesterday and you said two people left your life. Are you saying he got turned too protecting me?" Aaliyah and Alex shared a dark look. Then Alex walked toward me and sat down.
"We don't know why he left unexpectedly." She then got up and walked over to where I laid my necklace. She picked it up and let it twirl in the sunlight streaming through my window.
"This must be a dream, there's no way any of this is true I'm just asleep that's all." I thought to myself
"This isn't a dream princess, this is real life and you need to pay attention." Alex said, walking over to me with my necklace in her pail hand. "Where did you get this?" She asked, handing me the small heart shaped necklace with a deep red stone in the middle. I thought for a moment.
"My dad got it for me a week before he died." I said, suddenly taking interest in my bedroom floor.
"I'm sorry to hear that. Do you wear it at all times?" She asked, her dark black hair falling in her face, as her dark brown eyes bored into mine.
"Yeah, I just take it off to sleep and shower." I said looking up finally.
"Do you know why I'm asking?" Alex said then looked over at Aaliyah, they shared a dark look.
"No," I said, sounding scared. "The stone in the middle is sacred to our clan; it has power beyond measure."
"Whoa" I say breathlessly
"Whoa is right, it's priceless to our clan" Aaliyah said.
"Okay I still don't know why last night everyone stopped protecting me and why they were protecting me in the first place though." I looked between Alex and Aaliyah.
"We really can't tell you here. We are in danger of being found. We need to get you out of here and quick." Alex whispers as she empties the contents of my school bag. She began stuffing it with clothes.
"WHAT?!?!" I scream whisper so my mom won't hear me.
"You're going to have to leave with us right now. You'll die whether by the hand of the undead or starvation." I raised my hand to my neck and felt the marks were still sore. All of the sudden I fell to my knees. It felt as if someone had sucker punched me in the stomach, I thought I might puke.
"You need blood now" was the last thing I heard before I passed out.
