Dad had asked me to go ahead of him to his cabin. He mentioned having to let the others know about the Mordad. I did as I was told. Now I was just waiting on him to come into the study.
I kept myself from boredom by thinking. Dad's cabin seemed to be much farther off than all the others. He really takes his privacy seriously here I guess. Which reminds me of what he had said last time we talked.
"I wrongly assumed that I had established a safe place for us and others like us. However, there are things out there that can disguise themselves. Make them seem "normal" to the untrained eye. But they are not what they portray themselves to be"
I felt time slow down as my eyes widened. Could he have been talking about a Mordad? Or potentially something much worse. I felt the hair on my neck stand up.
Before I had the chance to uncover why my dad entered the study. He came straight over to me and wrapped me up in a hug.
"Lana," his voice broke. "I-I've failed as a father. I was supposed to protect you, and be there to watch you grow up" I pulled back to look my father in his dark eyes. I could barely make out his facial expression from the tears welling up in my own eyes.
"Dad, stop don't say those things. Okay?" I sniffled and hugged him tighter. It was a moment where no words were needed, just a warm embrace.
I could feel our connection grow like an ember sparking between us. When we finally pulled away I could feel the warmth come back with me. Although it felt more like a fire within myself started. The feeling made my hands tingle as I thought about what had happened just moments before.
I grew tired once again so I took a seat on the worn chocolate leather couch. My dad sat opposite of me in a matching love seat that faced the small window that looked out on the lake.
"Now, unfortunately we must talk about what went on before. I don't want to overload you just yet with our clan's history. Or with my past, we can talk about that in due time." His gaze slid over to me. I noticed how somber his eyes seemed to look.
My own gaze had been fixed on the large bookcase that took up most of the back wall. It was glorious to see all the volumes of ancient books telling of old laws and histories. When I sensed my father's eyes on me I quickly gave him my full attention. It was almost as if I was on autopilot.
"Please forgive Lana, I don't want to compel you, but I need you to listen to what I have to discuss with you."
That makes more sense I knew I couldn't have been this focused on my own
I snapped back to attention when I felt a hand on my throat. I froze and locked eyes with my father. He didn't look angry, or sad, he looked...well he looked excited.
I felt panic rising in my throat as I heard a crackling sound start to hum in my ears. The fire that had consumed me before started to work its way through my veins once again.
My father's hand stayed on my neck, he wasn't applying much pressure but that didn't matter. His eyes stayed fixed on mine as my gaze narrowed. The supernova feeling came back full force as my chest heaved.
My vision began to fog over, but I was still able to see somewhat. I stared at my dad's face as it started to shift and contort. All of a sudden he removed his hand from my neck. I tightly shut my eyes to calm myself down before I unleashed the fiery power I felt burning within me.
When I opened my eyes again I saw Henry standing where my father had stood. He had a smirk on his face as he drank in my confused reaction. I felt angry, hurt, and bewildered all at the same time.
