Cedric sat forward placing his elbows on his knees. "Because you are my daughter and I want to protect you at all costs. When I realized that I would have to leave you and your mom" his voice cracked and his eyes got glassy. A single tear escaped his left eye as he continued on.

"You see I was a vampire hunter, and the necklace was my mothers. She gave it to me on my last hunt before I got married." I am frozen in place. Nothing makes sense anymore. I put my head in my hands and began to tug at my hair. I tried to calm my racing thoughts.

From somewhere beside me I heard Henry shift around on the couch before I felt his hand on my back. For once I didn't want to push him away.

"I know this is a lot to take in. I am trying to give you the best overview that I can without worrying you." Cedric's voice sounded so far away.

I shook my head and sat back up, collecting myself for the time being.

"Okay, just rip the bandaid off and tell me how you ended up becoming a vampire. And why I am here now and mom isn't" I placed my hands in my lap to keep them from shaking.

"When I went on my 'camping trip', I was actually meeting up with the former leader of this clan. He was the one to convince me to hang up my vampire hunter career." I scoffed, of course a vampire would "convince" my dad to do that. I crossed my arms again and looked off to the right. I was met with the most apologetic look radiating from Henry's face. He had moved his hand from my back when I sat up, but he left it close to mine.

Oddly enough that's all it took, I was tired of being lied to and deceived. And I was exhausted from being force fed what I was supposed to believe was the truth. I stood up forcefully enough to push the couch back.

"I couldn't care less about the bull crap you are trying to feed me 'dad'. I don't know what is real or fake anymore. Thanks for all the hospitality, but I'm leaving"

I narrowed my fiery gaze on the man sitting in front of me. My dad or not, I was not going to play nice and be a good little girl accepting what I was told is true. I was going to find out what was real on my own.

I heard Henry chuckle as he stood up from the couch.

You are a feisty one aren't you? I'm sorry for what happened earlier, but don't leave this way. Let me take you out of this place for a while.

I didn't break my staring contest with Cedric. His mouth was agape, but his eyes were burning with anger. Suddenly he stood up. He was mere inches from my face. I just stared even more intently into his steel grey eyes.

I felt the connection between us spark once again. I felt pulled to him, before I could lean into that feeling he snarled.

"You think you can just leave? I have done everything in my power to protect you and this is how you repay me?" He let out a low chuckle. His apparent amusement didn't reach his eyes.

I felt like a bomb had been placed before me and I had to keep it from detonating.

Oddly enough though I was relaxed. I continued to look into his eyes, instantaneously I saw a jumping light in the darkness of his pupil. I reached for it with my mind and called out to it. I could feel Cedric shaking before me, I didn't know if it was from anger or what I was doing.

Either way I continued on. Somehow I was transported into the place in his eyes where I saw the light. It was pitch black around me. I seemed to have a fire burning inside myself illuminating the space around me.

Just before me in the darkness I saw the small line of light bouncing up and down. I walked forward, there was no fear holding me back. Instinctually I reached forward and grabbed the light. It was changed into a golden rope suspended in the air.

I tugged it and was instantly enveloped in a wall of light and sound.

I shielded my eyes from the penetrating light. Slowly, I saw a scene unfold before me. I saw Henry and he was talking to me, but not really me. I assumed it was Cedric he was talking to. I was just seeing it from Cedric's perspective.

I could barely hear Henry, but the more I focused the louder he got.

"So, you are asking me to try and test your daughters limits. All to see just how powerful she really is. That's wacked up don't you think?"

"No, like I have told you before, if she is as powerful as Adrian foresaw then I need to know now."

Henry shuffled around looking uncomfortable under Cedrics gaze.

"So what if she is? Why does this matter so much to you?"

I- I mean Cedric reached out and grasped onto Henry's shoulders.

"If I can test her and prove she has these powers, then I will be able to state my case to them. I can show them I am worthy to be a part of their clan. No longer will I be an outcast."

After the last word was spoken I fling back into my own body. Cedric was still as close as before, only now his expression was one of fear.

I stepped back, keeping my eyes locked on his for the entire time.

"You wanted to use me for your own personal gain. Well good luck with that, I'm on to you and I won't rest until I get to the bottom of this" I spit out the words.

"And you," I turn to face Henry "I'm still not so sure about, I'd keep my distance if I were you"

Henry dropped his head in regret.

"And just so you know my bark is only half as bad as my bite" I chomped my teeth together for effect.

I pushed past Cedric who remained frozen. I didn't know if it was Henry or me who was compelling him to stay in place. The only thing that mattered to me was that Cedric stayed there.

As I walked out of the front door I heard footsteps coming from behind me. I turned on my heels and was met with a worried looking Henry.

"I want  to let you into my mind. Show you my past, so that you will trust me"
