Chapter 4: Innocents

It was the day of the Christmas ball.

All the girls were dressed like Mrs. Claus. Apart from Ai, who had made her own outfit a while before. Hers had a fluffy belt going round the waist of her dress, and her whole dress, which was made from white silk, were covered in embroidery like snowflakes. It was just below the knee, and it certainly caught the attention of others.

"Creeps," Mumbled Ai as she eyed the random boy. Pushing her way through the crowd, she finally reached the Christmas Tree. Sighing with relief, she slowly began to climb it.

It was only a few minutes later when she heard someone else. She peered down and almost toppled out of the tree.

It was Natsume.

Grumbling, she climbed a few branches higher, just where he couldn't see her.

Soon, another person climbed the tree. Ai heard the sudden shriek and rolled her eyes, knowing it was Mikan. As the both of them had a 'heart-to-heart' talk, (with Ai listening to every word), there was a sudden silence, making her peep through the branches.

To her disgust and horror, Natsume was kissing Mikan. Gagging silently, she quietly slipped out of the tree. She turned to the balcony,

Hearing the footsteps of her dreaded enemy, she leant on the edge, and gazed at the stars.

"They've got another mission for you," Came the icy voice she was waiting for.

"Why else would you be here?"

There was an uncomfortable silence.

"Go quickly. He's waiting."

That was what he said the last time. Dread filled her body as she remembered the last mission. The innocent family... Being dragged into the horrors of this world without knowing. She clenched her fist and closed her eyes. She heard the spin of the heel, and she sensed no presence behind her.

Then she sighed tiredly before walking off the balcony.

Natsume watched as Ai walked out of the hall, taking no notice of the others.

He rubbed his bottom lip, remembering the feeling.

He also knew that he shouldn't be stubborn He knew a fact, and he wasn't going to back down.

He was falling for Polka.
