"I heard he blew up the entire Chemistry lab."
Paisley rolled her eyes, her earrings jangling as she shook her head in dismay at the gossip filtering through the massive crowd bunched together.
"I heard he made his classmates disappear. Like, poof, no more."
There were whispers, shuffling of feet, and hands shoving at others to get through the crowd, to see better of the commotion at front.
"I heard that his parents aren't even his real parents."
Paisley was no different as she craned her neck, trying to peer over the shoulder of the lanky teen boy in front of her.
"What happened to his parents?"
Paisley reached a hand forward, the bangles on her wrist jingling as she tapped the boy's shoulder before sidling through the small gap between him and his neighbor, dipping into the extra space in front of them.
"I heard he killed them in some kind of freak explosion."
Her foot caught under her and Paisley fell into a couple in front of her.
"Get closer, I can't see." The words came as a hiss before Paisley had stumbled forward, and hands shoved at her so the owner could get through the crowd.
Paisley stumbled back. She held up her hands in defense when the two shot her nasty gazes. Quickly she slipped into an open part of the crowd, and tried to see the front. She tried to find her friends amongst the jumble of people. The ruckus that had brought out the entire student body and staff had started just minutes after the class of the last period had begun.
There had been no warning beforehand, no mention of what was to take place, but like a wild fire being sparked, the rumors had instantly spread about the boy who was now cowering in the middle of a circle of Guards.
As Paisley slipped closer to the front, she got peeks, momentary views of the said boy at hand, but it only happened when a Guard blocking her view shifted in his spot. She knew the boy's name, everyone suddenly seemed to know his name out of the blue, but that's where the line was drawn of knowledge about who the boy was.
He was lanky, just like the other teen boys of the school, but his face was gaunt, as if sunlight had escaped him for most of his life. Shallow cheeks and dark bags pulling his eyes down gave definition to the gaunt features, his hair hung limply over his forehead, flopping in every direction when he moved. It was his eyes that were the only lively part about him; wild looking, sparkling emeralds, and darting in every direction, trying to find a way out of his given predicament.
Clothes hung loosely on his body, sleeves of the oversized sweatshirt and too long hems of the pants were all rolled up to fit, the brown boots were frayed at the ends, caked in what seemed to be months' worth of mud and a substance that was a darker shade in color.
It did no justice to his outfit or frame, it gave him a sickly glow, one that was difficult to look at, but even harder to look away from. The sight of the boy made Paisley's stomach churn in unwanted vomit acid, her eyes kept glued to the group in front, watching as the boy was switched to and from her sight. She couldn't look away even if she wanted to.
Avid green eyes darted over the crowd, stopping momentarily on Paisley who in return froze, taken aback by the sudden interest the greasy haired boy gave her. His lips quivered as their eyes met, words he couldn't speak seemed to want to escape. Paisley swallowed roughly, trying to push down the lump in her throat, her feet stapled to the ground, and her breath was stuck in her lungs.
