The masked Guards first removed the deceased, her name they didn't care about. She was just another Burner now, a corpse to fuel the medicine she'd refused to take in order to keep alive.
She had no say so now and as they were only Between's, neither Paisley nor Paris could argue against the decision that was to happen to their guardian's body. Not that they didn't try of course, but after minutes of getting nowhere, Paisley and Paris returned to their room which was now cold from lack of body warmth, and pack what little they could. That was the rules they'd been given after calming down and in silence is how they obeyed it all.
The click of the locking door stilled both girls as they were herded from the house. Would that be the last time they heard that sound? The poking of their shepherds had them staggering forward, continuing into the streets of early morning.
It was as if, once their feet hit the dirt ground, a new siren had gone off, one that beckoned the housebound Kalandronian's from their housings.
They were busybodies, always wanting to poke their noses where they didn't belong. The news was now Paisley and Paris, a light they would have rather not been shone beneath.
It meant every pair of eyes were on them, their names would be on their lips, all would be anxious to create rumors surrounding the two. It was a grime light to be under, one that neither girl wanted to endure, but lips kept zipped shut. To turn back now would only raise questions neither wanted to even think about answering.
Paris gripped Paisley's hand, squeezing with as much reassurance as she could muster, silently giving her the tell that everything would be alright. It was the strength that Paisley need to pull herself together, to keep moving forward, but it wasn't enough to keep from feeling clammy from beneath the metallic like shirt she adorned.
Everything was wrong, there was nothing to go right, and that was the most frustrating part about the whole thing, about the death of Miss Guilding. It as if it should've happened in the first place.
But that's what they got for being the ultimate sin of their planet, life just would never be right. Accepting it was just fate showing them their way.
Gloomy skies lay thick overhead, shimmering sparks of light glittered down upon the group, and dust clouds of dirt puffed up behind their feet as they gradually made their way into town.
Having never been escorted by the Creeps themselves, neither Paisley or Paris had any idea as to where they were headed or even what to expect at that. Not a single word was spoken, aside the hushed whispered that broke out from onlookers, questions that were no doubt beginning to exist in the air.
Eventually, the largest building that both Paisley and Paris had ever seen loomed up above them, blocking the gloomy overcast. It towered high into the sky, a seemingly invisible top reaching upwards, the metal of the building that slanted downwards, as if waving, glinted in the low light bouncing off its edges. This building itself was near the middle of town, the highest one there was in the city of Sardyn, the capital of Kalandron.
Double glass doors slid open with a swish, the light wind from the movement bristling black strands of hair that tickled Paisley's nose, as they approached. A cool whiff of air engulfed the group as they trudged inwards, seaming around flushed flesh and pulling apart the cloth that stuck to their skin.
Paisley and Paris, both stunned at the sight before them, froze mid-step once over the threshold. Here, leniency was a given, particularly in the wake of the reasoning as to the visit, and the Guards lingered, waiting for the first intake of admiration to be over from the girls.
Paisley's eyes darted around, trying desperately to drink it all in, but every time she glanced back at a spot she took in something she had missed from a moment before.
