"Two centuries ago, our people had risen to power. This was about five centuries after the bomber had vacated the highest country: Americon or something like that. Three centuries after the Games had started. We ended those when the Generals rose to power, they were full of discrimination, for us and the humans. Life was peaceful, as peaceful as it could get. You still had your people who hated us and people who hated them. It was a normal a balance as you could get it. But some people didn't like it. Thought they were better than everyone else." His voice had reached a near whisper by this point, the orange tint of the sky had begun to glow.

The world around them was beginning to wake for the day. Soft whispers rustled the air around them, the gentle sighs of the early risers leaving their homes to head off to their daily lives. Her head turned, eyes looking down behind and watched the sleep-ridden shuffle of someone leaving their home. From where they stood, Paisley couldn't tell if the someone was a man or woman.

"The council," Theo continued in his low voice, scraggly now with the effort to keep it down. "For whatever reason, joined up against us. Got a big enough army to do so. Of the people who feared us, hated us, of the ones who didn't understand us. The stories have been changed, but one thing is for sure; the ones who rallied against us, weren't and still aren't all human. The humans might want to believe it's just them ruling, but in reality, it's not. Rising to power that quick, that suddenly isn't possible just on their own."

The clatter if a few dislodged rocks halted their hushed conversation. Theo's Head swiveled from side to side, heels digging into the ground as he pivoted. His body swung to the side, hands grappling at Paisley. Once his fingers grasped her arm between them, they flexed and his strength hauled her forward. Paisley stumbled, bare feet catching hold of the ground and sent her reeling forward. A blast of heat scorched her from beneath as if the ground had suddenly morphed into a bed of coals. The collar of her shirt grabbed hold of her neck, tightening to cut off the circulation of her breath for a moment as she was hauled upright on her feet.

"Don't you know better then doing that at this hour?" Theo hissed, anger lacing lacing the edge of his tone. "You can't sneak up on people like that, especially this early."

Straightening herself properly, very much disgruntled by the quick movements that had happened, Paisley turned to face the newcomer. The blonde stood with a wide grin plastered on her face, amusement glimmering in purple colored eyes. Fake to keep from changing too soon and be a dead giveaway to what she was. If the right items were available or the family in the right position, anyone could get their eyes surgically changed to a new color. It was mostly used to be a trend, a fashion statement for Between's. Sometimes Middle's got them, but only as a last resort not to be caught and locked away. Those ones were always given second glances when they were passed.

The stories of the prison that held at least three-quarters of their kind, as best as Paisley understood, would give anyone nightmares. No one came back from it. Once taken, they were gone and it was just that. But now wasn't the time to be dwelling on those thoughts. Quickly glancing around, Paisley realized the uneasy feeling that had entered at the girls appearance was yet to leave. It made no sense, as the area around them lay barren, void of any breathing creature besides them. So what was so wrong? It had to be nerves. After all that had already happened, solitude couldn't possibly exist so easily. There had to be something wrong, there just had to be!

"Don't do it again, Nova. Especially now. Did you not hear what's going on?" Theo was speaking, but words were drained, all emotion gone. In their place lay weariness, as he many nights of little to no sleep had finally caught up to him.
