TWO EVILS.
04. QUATTRO: A NIGHT OF LIES
❝On the eve of the 75th Hunger Games. We've never seen anything like this and we will never see anything like it again. Because tonight on this day 24 of Panem's brightest stars will buy for the ultimate crown. Tonight will be their final opportunity to express their thoughts... Our final opportunity to express our love... Heartbreakingly. To say goodbye to all but one.❞
___
❝These victors are angry Katniss. They'll say anything to try and stop the games. I suggest you do the same.❞
________
The person in the mirror was someone she had never seen before. It was Grier but it wasn't. It just wasn't her.
The girl in the mirror looked like she belonged in the Capitol - minus the sullen look plastered across her face. There was no smile, no joy as she stared at herself. In fact, Grier felt like she was staring at an empty shell, maybe a barbie. That girl in the mirror was someone tell Capitol could mold to the perfect image.
But no one was perfect, so why would they even try to create the idea? All those people in their bright wigs, flashy outfits, special pills to keep them thin while the other districts were starving. Seeing all their joy lit a spark in Grier.
They only cared about themselves.
It was pretty easy to distinguish a person from the Capitol between a person from the districts but right now it was almost impossible. Grier felt like she was a part of the Capitol, her stomach churning at the thought, threatening to spill the little contents that were left in her stomach.
It was so hard to imagine the girl in the mirror covered in blood, a dripping machete held limply in the girl's grasp. Yet it all happened. It was hard to imagine the sweat matted hair and bruised face. This girl standing in the mirror seemed too pure.
The more she looked at her reflection, the more she despised it. That girl was not her. She would never be that girl. That girl was all a facade.
The blue ripples of the dress cascaded down the skirt of her dress, flowing like a waterfall. The top of the dress was plain and simple, a sweetheart neckline that was almost a royal blue color. As she turned, it seemed to glimmer in the light. Her hair was tousled and curled in a away that was elegant yet wild. Grier couldn't help but stare, her soft pink lips etching a prominent frown.
It just simply wasn't her.
For what seemed like hours, it was just Grier looking at herself in the mirror, picking out every little flaw as stylists ran around fixing everything. She was so trapped in her own little world that she hadn't noticed Finnick walk into the room, his eyes never leaving her.
He didn't speak, only watched and it wasn't until the rush of the stylists had stopped did her talk.
Finnick scoffed at the television screen that was blaring the interviews. Currently, it was the brother and sister from district one telling some sob story about how much they "love" the Capitol.
Grier watched, turning to face Finnick and the screen fully. Finnick's eyes never left the screen as he lifted the bubbly champagne he was holding up to his mouth.
