Lily's POV

I slowly walked into the auditorium, today was grandpa's funeral. I had never been to a funeral before. I didn't quite know how to act.

I sat in a row with my aunt and uncle and mom and dad sat in the row in front of us; in the very front. I'm pretty sure mom had to go and give a speech, or whatever you call them.

Mom walked up to grandpa, and slightly kissed his cheek. He had his hair neatly combed over, and he was in a red cardigan. He also had a blue jay pin on his pocket, which he would always wear on Sundays to church.

The last few people trickled in, and shortly after, the funeral services started.

Link's POV

Christy slowly walked up onto the stage. She didn't want to have to do this two days in a row. She didn't really ever want to have to do it. Especially not at her own dad's funeral.

She started her speech, "I remember when I was just a little girl, and daddy would always put me on his knee. He would make us cups of homemade lemonade, and if mom wasn't home, put it into huge glasses." She had tears pouring down her face.

"I remember when I was maybe seven or eight, I fell off my bike, and scraped up my leg. He would give us the best hugs to make us feel better." She blotted her eyes with a tissue. She paused and steadied her breath.

"He didn't really like Link that much, but he knew that he made me happy. He was just looking out for me. He didn't want me to get hurt." I had my hand over my mouth, trying not to cry.

"He was the greatest grandpa to my kids that you'd ever seen. He would get down on the floor and roll around with them, even if it meant waking up and being so stiff he could barely move. He would happily play whatever game they wanted him too, and that's what I loved about him."

Lincoln's POV

Tears poured from my eyes as mom continued her speech.

I had never really grown close to grandpa, but now that he was gone, I have a piece of my life missing.

Lando's POV
-/-/-/-
Mommy was really sad, and I was too, because grandpa was in heaven now. That's good, right?

I didn't really cry, but I was just really, really, sad.

Christy's POV
-/-/-
We finished up the last verse of Amazing Grace, my dad's favorite song, as my cousin, Hayden, read some verses from the bible.

I tried to hold back tears, but failed miserably.

Link's POV
-/-/-
Christy lay one more rose in her dad's coffin, as they slowly closed it and lowered it into the ground. She wasn't even trying to hold back tears anymore.

Christy's uncle then led a prayer, as her two sisters started shoveling the dirt to bury him under ground.

Christy's POV
-/-/-/-
I held the shovel, hands shaking, and slowly covered my dad's coffin with soil.

I lay down the shovel and held the locket my dad gave me when I was a little girl.

I turned to Link, and at this point he had some tears rolling down on his own face now.

I turned to him, and he pulled me into his arms, and I cried, loud, heavy sobs.

My dad was gone, and he was never coming back.

Link's POV
-/-/-/-
I grasped Christy into my arms, and she cried loud, heavy, sobs into my shoulder.

Rain slowly misted down on us, but that didn't matter. She mattered right now. I soothed her and rubbed her back as I wrapped my jacket around her.

It hurt me to see her in loss. I hated it. She shouldn't have to go through this.

1 Week Later Link's POV

I walked back downstairs to find Christy loading the dishwasher. She looked absolutely done with everything.

I walked up to her, "Christy, you go to bed, I'll finish loading the dishwasher. I have to finish some stuff for work too, so I'll be up in about an hour."

She smiled, the first time I had seen that in a while, "thanks" she said.

I kissed her, and hugged her before she went down the hall into the bedroom.

I finished loading the dishwasher, and what I had to do for work. I quietly walked into the bedroom, I saw the room illuminated with the dim light of the lamp.

I saw Christy asleep, with the book she was reading over her neck and chest. That's why she still had the lamp on.

I carefully slipped the book out of her hands, covered her with the sheets, and I kissed her lips softly before getting ready for bed myself.

I walked over to get into the bed, and tripped over something on the carpet in the dark.

I hit the bed, and Christy slowly woke up. The one thing I didn't want to happen.

She got out of bed, and reached her hand out to help me up. Reluctantly, I took it. She hoisted me up.

She looked at me, "you okay?" I nodded my head.

A few minutes later we were both in bed, and I knew: she was the best thing that ever happened to me.
