Chapter 3
I looked around the room, taking the white walls. They really should consider repainting the walls with color I thought.
Sitting here on this table was getting beyond uncomfortable. My back was hurting and every time I moved the sheet on the table would slightly rip, so I just tried to stay still. I sighed and frowned pulling out my cell phone.
I had three missed calls from my mother and about ten from my father. I told them last night that I was going to the doctors today because I haven't been feeling the best. I had to leave work yesterday because I threw up twice. My boss made me leave because she said thought I was risk of getting patients sick. So here I am at the doctors.
My cell phone buzzed, making me look down at it. I sighed and answered wanting them just to leave me alone. "Yes mother, I am still waiting for the results. No I don't know anything." I told her before she could fire questions at me.
"Arianna do you think you could have cancer? You know your grandmother had cancer. Oh god, what if my baby has cancer? Arianna you need to come home tonight. I'll book you a flight and your father and I will pick you up. I'll take care of you. Oh, speaking of your father here he is" she said.
I rolled my eyes "Wait mom I-" I was trying to stop her from getting my dad before he started his protective father mode, but I got dead air.
"Ari? your mom said cancer? I'm packing my bags right now and I've already called Andrew to arrange a flight out your way. I'll be there in two hours." I could her my mom in the background saying to tell him to tell me that she'll be there too. I just closed my eyes and groaned. Any other time I would have found this funny, but I just wanted to go home.
I never said anything about cancer, I just described the symptoms I have been having and my mom announced it was cancer. I tried to tell her that she was no doctor, she was a fashion consultant for some magazines, she can't diagnose someone. She was having none of it. I tried to protest her, but she was in her motherly protective mode.
Every time I tried to jump into the conversation between my dad, mom, and I, they would talk over me. I was getting annoyed. I just wanted to get my medicine and go home to take a nice bath and sleep. I finally had enough of the bickering going on.
"Dad, I dont have cancer. I just have a stomach flu, the doctor will prescribe some medicine to coat my stomach and I'll be as good as new. Call Andrew back and tell him you're not coming out here. Now, the doctor should be here anytime, so I'm going to go. I'll call you when I'm done. Goodbye." With that I hung up on him, while he tried to talk to me.
I shut my phone off and threw it into my purse. I frowned, they could be amazing parents, but they were annoying ones. I was grumpy and tired from working today and dealing with Parker coming to the doctor's office looking for me. After I found him with my sister, I ignored his calls and texts. I wanted nothing to do with him.
My eyes shot to the door that was opening. A lady wearing a white lab coat and scrubs walked in carrying my file in her hands. Her brown hair tied up in a neat bun at the top of her head. "Ms. Costa, I'm Doctor Hutcherson. I have your results here."
I nodded my head, "I don't have cancer, right?" I blurted out. Yes, my parents had me somewhat worried now.
She looked really confused as to why I blurted that out. She smiled and shook her head. "No, you don't have cancer, but you do have a reason for the symptoms you have been having."
Relief filled me at the no cancer comment. "I have the flu, I know I do. I can't really seem to eat anything without throwing it up ten minutes later. Plus, I have been feeling dizzy and warm. Those are all symptoms of having the flu." I stated. My eyes watching as she nodded head and sat down on her chair in front of me.
