Otonashi awakens only to learn he is dead. A rifle-toting girl named Yuri explains that they are in the afterlife, and Otonashi realizes the only thing he can remember about himself is his name. Yuri tells him that she leads the Shinda Sekai Sensen (Afterlife Battlefront) and wages war against a girl named Tenshi. Unable to believe Yuri's claims that Tenshi is evil, Otonashi attempts to speak with her, but the encounter doesn't go as he intended.
Otonashi decides to join the SSS and battle Tenshi, but he finds himself oddly drawn to her. While trying to regain his memories and understand Tenshi, he gradually unravels the mysteries of the afterlife.
personal review-
Now, before you decide not to watch this because you don't see romance in the genres, wait(if your not looking for romance still watch it.) More than four times i opened this anime and remembered it wasn't romance and skipped it(I usually only watch romance or comedy slice of life.) I really regret that. This was an AMAZING anime and in the end it is romance, i don't understand why some anime's don't tag that. It happens a lot i realized over time. This anime tough, its a anime that makes you crawl up in a ball at the end. They did it in a very evil way to, they made basically the first 11 eps all funny and nice just to get you used to the characters and then BAM they make it serious. if you have seen Charlotte then you will almost definitely love this. There are even some people that say they arein the same universe. Here are some things that could form a really good fan made theory and stuff.
1. they were made by the same studio to begin with.
2. they were both original and were not based off of light novels/manga written by different authors (also both plots and story's were made by the same writer in P.A.)
3. The blind singer in Charlotte is the same voice actor as the lead guitarist and singer in angel beats, who heard the same kind of music that made the other sing ( they also look very similar. )
4. The glasses guy (Takajou ) from Charlotte has the same voice actor as Takamatsu from angel beats, and they look almost exactly the same ( with the exception of different art styles. ) they are also both described as very muscular despite their looks and have the same personality. ( In the show they even use the same quote word for word. )
5. The baseball player in Charlotte whos dream is to go to the champions in baseball is voiced by, you guessed it the same voice actor as Hinata the character from angel beats who said his dream was ruined when he lost in the champions when he missed the ball that cost his team the game.
6. Only the characters that are similar to ones from Charlotte have voice actors from both animes, and its odd that if they got this many yet only the ones who almost clones of the ones from Charlotte got voiced by them, and not only that but by their counter parts actor as well.
Thats all i have noticed but there is probably more. Now is this all just a coincidence, i think so. but its fun to say it isn't and was put their by the maker to connect them. either way its interesting.

I can already feel your gazes. Look i understand for a while he was a bad guy but hes pretty chill once you get to know him. i have no idea why i like the odd characters no one else likes don't ask me! he was just funny ok leave me alone.

Again this was a anime that made me cry at the end, one of a very select few. does that mean you will cry? probably, but you could not, its all a matter of opinion really. i dont think i need to say to much more, this is already a long review so ill leave you with this.
