Police sirens were heard around me but I continued to hide behind a giant oak tree, panting.
I had no idea where I dropped the gun or where I was at, who I shot, if I wounded anyone and I was terrified.
I continued to pant like a dog in attempts to catch my breath so I can go somewhere safe meanwhile Damien finds me, or I could go home.
I debated the idea and nodded to myself because I missed my family so much and I needed comfort and to be happy. I wasn't getting that at the mansion. Maybe Damien won't notice I'm gone so then I can go back to my past life.
I got up and started to walk back towards the direction of the house because that was the direction of the coffee shop.
I walked in silence, head down just in case anybody noticed me.
Maybe they don't want you back, Nova. You've already been missing for so long.
I looked up and thought about it more until my thoughts we're interrupted by an echo of loud footsteps thumping towards me.
I could only make out a figure of a person so I continued to walk. It was probably a jogger.
But then, behind the first figure there was two behind it, running towards me as well.
All three figures we're fast approaching and behind them all... the sound of sirens.
As they got closer I realized it was no other than Andrew, Kyle, and Damien.
Damien slowed down once he recognized me "Hm, I thought you would've tried to escape again" He smirked.
"Believe me when I say I thought about it" I replied.
He shrugged and looked back to see Andrew and Kyle quickly approaching us, as well as the sirens. Damien's eyes widened "We gotta go, Nova" he said and grabbed my hand.
I didn't let go and let him take the lead.
"Stop!" The police boomed through a megaphone. They were right behind us.
We didn't and eventually Damien made a sharp turn around a corner, pulling me with.
"The fence!" Kyle shouted and Damien let go of my hand. All three of them including me bolted towards a lawn of a house. We ran through the lawn and they jumped the fence as if they've done it millions of times before. I struggled to climb it and the police were probably going to see me.
"Hide!" Andrew hissed and I leaped towards a bush and layed down. I curled myself up as best as I could like Damien taught me.
The sirens eventually passed, clueless to the fact we were in somebody's lawn.
I waited a couple minutes in order to avoid the same mistake from earlier before finally crawling from the bush and walking towards the fence.
"C'mon Nova, we need to move quickly" Damien popped his head from the other side of the fence and stuck out his tattooed arms.
I gripped his arms and he pulled me over the fence, nodding at me. "Are you alright?"
"Yup" I popped the 'p'. I shoved my hands in my back pocket, starting to walk beside him as if it was no big deal.
It definitely was. I was freaking out on the inside. Did I really just do that?!
Kyle walked fast in front of us while Andrew followed far behind like a lost puppy.
Damien and I walked in a comfortable silence until he cleared his throat and words starting coming out of my mouth like throw-up "Did I- Did I shoot anybody back there?" I took a deep breath. I didn't really want to know if I was the cause of a death, but at the same time curiosity was getting the best of me.
Damien shook his head "No. Almost though. You gave the guy something to be distracted about and Andrew was able to use that as a getaway"
I nodded again, being haunted by the word almost.
I was almost the cause of a death and almost is way too close.
"I'm sorry I messed up the job Damien." I said, tucking a strand of loose hair behind my ear.
He stayed quiet until we reached a park to stay at meanwhile the police looked around for us.
"Feeling guilty huh?" He chuckled.
I rolled my eyes, shrugging "No. I just feel like I let you down and I can't bare with that feeling" I said and as soon as I said it, I quickly regretted it and looked away. My cheeks felt hot. I was embarrassed.
"Hm, what is that I smell?" Damien tapped his chin and looked at me. "Wow! Is that the smell of Nova's humongous crush on me?"
"Oh shut up, Damien" I laughed. I looked at him and slightly smiled.
He laughed too and wiggled his eyebrows "Don't you wish your boyfriend was hot like me?" He sang, making me laugh harder.
"My crush on you disappeared a while ago, sorry to ruin your vibe."
"So you admit you had a crush on me at one point?"
"A crush? No. An interest? Maybe" I teased.
"Interesting" He nodded and I swear his eyes sparkled, they did something that made him look different, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it "Is there a possibility that that interest is still somewhere in you?"
I looked at Damien and studied his features, trying to find that one difference.
His skin was still flawless and still a beautiful somewhat tan color, black hair still looking fluffy and cute but oddly sexy, soft pink plump lips, his cute few little freckles still splattered over his nose and his cold, emotionless dark brown eyes were- his eyes.
I stared right at him and realized that instead of his usual dark brown eyes that mostly never showed a hint of emotion were different.
Now, his eyes were a soft brown color and they were looking at me with a sense of... hope. I swear they were sparkling and it amazed me. I could stare into his eyes forever.
It was then that I noticed that we were so close together, faces inches apart, lips centimeters apart. My heart was beating like crazy and I'm pretty sure Damien could hear it but he didn't say anything. Surprisingly. I could faintly hear the sound of Damien's heart thumping rapidly against his chest as well which caused me to smirk, but I didn't say anything.
"Maybe" I whispered. I slowly pulled back. "We should probably get going" I told him.
