I walked home by myself after being threatened by Damien. I walked a couple rounds around the police station, debating if I should report him pointing a gun to my head or not. Every time I tried to open the door to go in the police station... I couldn't. It was as if he hypnotized me. Everytime my hand would grip the door handle, his threat would replay over and over.

One word to anyone, especially the police I'll go after you and your family. I mean it, Nova. You don't know what I'm capable of.

The police officer at the front desk would give me a confused look as I failed at opening the door before returning to paperwork. I don't want to put my family at risk if Damien is serious! I sighed. I tried to open the door once again.

One word to anyone, especially the poli-

My thoughts were  interrupted by the door opening itself. The police officer from the front desk walked out.

"Do you need help, honey?" She asked.

I bit my lip. What do I say? I need help but I don't think I can ask for it. I eventually nodded my head.

"Yeah. I mean yes, ma'm.." I paused. I felt my face turn bright red in embarrassment.

No. I don't need help! I do... but - no I can't report this.

Why did I tell her I needed help? You're such an idiot, Nova.

"I'm alright. It's just that my uncle? Yes, my uncle...  is having car issues so I was wondering if I can use your phone to call him. I just want to make sure he's alright" I continued the lie.

"My phone died, so" I quickly added. I tucked a lose strand of hair behind my ear. I remembered when Damien did it the first day we met.

She raised her eyebrow. I could tell she unsure. She didn't know if she believed me or not. "Yes, we have a phone. Why were you stalling outside?" She questioned me.

"I'm a really shy person. I was afraid you might say no."

Lie after lie, I was ashamed. I never have told a big lie to an adult before. Never ever. I know it sounds crazy but it was true.

"Nothing to be afraid of, honey. Come on in" she smiled at me and placed her hand on my back to lead me inside. "Pretty dress you have there" she said.

I took a deep breath. "Thanks"

Oooh no.

I stopped in my tracks and shook my head "Actually I think I have one percent of battery left. I'll use that to call him and find his car. I thought I saw it earlier but I assumed I was hallucinating. Maybe I should go check." I nodded, plastering a smile afterwards.

She looked at me. She was puzzled. "Is it in or out? Your story seems a little incomplete. Are you sure?" She asked me.

"Yes. Of course. I'm sorry. I get a little nervous" I pulled out my phone.

"Normally I would make you come inside but it's late. My shift's almost over. Be safe." She muttered. She walked back inside, turning her head back to look at me.

I squeaked out a "Thank you" and ran back home.

I was awoken by a banging on my door "Nova, your shift is soon!" My mom screamed outside my door.

I rolled out of bed.

Try to be around your family as much as you can.

I shouldn't be taking this seriously. I shouldn't be taking Damien seriously for that matter yet I was. Why?
