Damien's POV
Almost like an instinct, I woke up when I felt Nova being pried off my arms.
My vision was blurry so I blinked a couple times trying to recall what was going on.
Once I got few small flashbacks that reminded me overall what had happened in the last couple of hours, I looked up to see who dared to take Nova from me.
A paramedic was trying to get her onto a stretcher. I held her back, shaking my head. I was too weak and caught up in the moment to get any words out. All I knew how to do is keep Nova close.
"Sir, she is in critical condition. We have to take her to the E.R. immediately" The paramedic said through gritted teeth, trying to take Nova away from me once again. I latched onto her.
"No" I finally croaked out.
"No?" The paramedic looked deeply offended resulting in an understandably angry facial expression. "Sir-" She tried to start an argument but it was soon interrupted by hollering in the distance.
I looked over to the commotion to see Kyle had started his own argument with a different paramedic.
"I don't need to go to the hospital, I am completely fine" Kyle coughed, almost wheezing out his words.
He was anything but fine. It was obvious.
I looked down at Nova wondering if it was worth to risk Kyle and I's identity by going to a hospital. I knew I had to get her to a source of help but not a hospital. I hated myself for being so selfish but I just couldn't. There had to be another option.
I tried to recollect my thoughts thinking of what exact location we were currently in.
I slightly looked up at the paramedic in front of me as she continuously tried to help Nova. I tried as much as I could to avoid her seeing my face.
"Who called you?" I finally questioned the stubborn paramedic.
"We were called by a person driving by. You should be thankful-"
I stopped listening to her once a name popped into my head.
Martin.
Martin Colton.
He was a retired doctor who had helped us in the past when we were injured or when we were in any sorts of trouble. We only called him when we were truly desperate.
He was the best doctor in town, still is. Because of this great legacy... he was donated a private hospital. The previous owner of the private hospital was self-employed and wanted to move on to better things. So, he got in contact with Martin and asked him if he wanted to be the new self-employed owner of the hospital and Martin Colton had agreed. He's been running it ever since.
His hospital was about twenty minutes away though and I didn't have twenty minutes. I wasn't even sure if Martin even had the medical tools in hand to treat her.
Nova needed help and she needed it now. So, I pushed all my selfish thoughts about the business and our identities away and seriously contemplated on actually letting Nova go. I was about to let the paramedic whisk her away into the ambulance when I remembered Nova was supposed to be dead.
I ran a hand through my hair, hating myself for my previous actions. The town thinking she had gone missing and passed away was the last thing I needed as of right now.
